Hi there,

Ive been missing from this forum for a looong time. ever since i sold my previous magna. I am now looking to buy again and was hoping to find out what you guys think about a 2005 tl vr wagon with 90,000km on the clock. Its going for 9k here in perth.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

VR TW Wagon, sounds nice, there aren't any problems that I am aware of that affect that particular model.
But over a TJ, they have A 4 Star ancap rating, better steering rack, should be a rear sway bar, IIRC they have no wave spring to affect long term gearbox issues.
Should still drive really tight at those Km's too. The box should shift quickly and smoothly, the box should be flush at those k's/years as well.
But coming up to 6 years old, its (over)due for a timing belt and Major fluid changes, the oil cap shouldn't smell burnt.
But check for leaking steering rack, water on passenger front floor, windows and all electrics operation.
Wagons are bit harder to get particlar parts for, as they are bit on the rare side, but a a 5speed VR wagon sounds awesome.
Just the A/C button can be a bit dicky on these, but the controller (3Knobs) is easily replaced.
If I needed another car, I'd pay that money for that, If they panels and Paint were good, and the service books were there.
For some reason unknown to me, modding an Exhaust on these is different to TJ, what sounds good on another 3rd gen, might sound like a raspy blender on a TL/TW.
Looking forward to some Pics/Links.

Hi shoot,

thanks for the reply. looks like even the dealer got the model wrong. Just to clarify, the 2005 model is a TW? I also just had a look and seen a 2003 model wagon that looks not too bad. Thoughts?

5 Speed is a lot quicker. :) That VR is almost a VRX, might be a bit better looking, has much nicer front end than a standard wagon. Could have small GE kit on the body. Coloured coded mirrors, Lights too.
And 2003 could be a TJ Series II or a TL.
There's more street cred in a VR.
I reckon if your out looking for a magna wagon, and there is a VR, thank your Car God. If the dollars it costs = the value it gives you. It would be a good choice.

Gearbox - Make sure the changes are smooth in D as well as Tiptronic.
Check CVs - Just to make sure the boots havent split or anything..

Usual deal - Suspension, Service History etc.

If its a KJ.. Check the inside drivers door to see if the recall service has been done

Also check the front passengers foot well to see if the heater core has shat itself and been replaced or not.. You'll notice the carpet MAY have a slight green tinge to it.. If so.. It has and hopefully has been replaced! - This will be a hard one to see unless you pull up the carpet..

yeah it was good. loved the drive. really wanted it but the offer for my car was just too low..... oh well. very happy with my kj now at 1/3 the price. even though its hail damaged, i can still keep my old car.
