Hey guys. How hard is it and what's involved in adjusting idle up a bit as my auto shakes a bit whilst in gear at idle. What do I need to do?

AFAIK its has automatic adjustment through the Ecu. Sounds like you have a problem elsewhere, check all the vacuum lines and take a look at your engine mounts and even your dizzy and rotor.

Id be taking it back to the guys that fitted the engine and getting them to fix it but I guess your sick of dealing with them aye. Come over and Ill take a look at it for you if you like.

Cheers Luke

ECU controls the idle speed, but can't if the ISC isn't responding. What speed idle do you get the vibrations at?

ISC is easy to test, warm idle, then turn aircon, lights on, and move the steering wheel about. If the idle dips and doesn't come up when these loads are introduced, but stays 100-200 rpm below the no load idle, then the ISC is suspect. That's how I test the ISC on my TJ and my wife's 2004 Lancer anyway. If it is working, look at the engine mounts.

Good point could be the ISC but that wouldn't account for the shakes.

You can adjust the idle with the idle screw on the throttle body as a temporary measure whilst you find out what the real problem is

You would be surprised how these engines shake when idling at 400 rpm. lol

Mine idles at slightly above 400 all the time. Ain't that normal?

There's a sticker under the bonnet. My TJ sticker says: 700 rpm plus or minus 100, so 600 to 800 rpm.

If it is at 400, it is wrong.

First of all, disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to clear the ECU's logic.

Put the car in N or Park and make sure it is completely warmed up (needle should be on half).

Adjust the idle screw until the idle is stable (Not hunting) at 700rpm (The ECU is programmed to set it at 703rpm in N, 625rpm in D).

If idle is still not stable, check your ISC, if vibrations persist with correct idle check your engine mounts.

It's at about 620 roughly

sorry for the short replys, (work is a bitch) but idle itself is fine then if 625 in D is normal, must be elsewhere, i had a look at the mounts and they seem ok (by look) but ill try shake motor or something tomorrow, i still have the prob with the electricals, cruise light comes on when button is pressed but will not set. traction control light illuminates as TCL OFF but when i switch it on the TCL OFF light switches off but the TCL light wont come on and traction control wont work. spottys arnt working either but im going to check globes because the light comes on in cluster and fuses are ok, its just the lights that dont come on!
