My TF has travelled 106,000k and its well and truly due for the timing belt overhaul. Now the local workshop said its a $800 job.
I was just wondering if anyone can recommend a good mechanic in Adelaide (South) who is... well... cheap yet good?

I've heard some mitsubishi service centres can go down to about $400, don't think that includes the tensioner though.

My Mech did mine for $540.

Ultra Car Care at Reynella, tell them Luke with the Magna sent you.

Morphett Vale Garage did mine for $760 but that included new front pads, machined rotors and a trans flush, so probs similar price to peeandham!

That sounds more reasonable and I only live 15m from Reynella. How long ago was that?

edit: Also after driving my freshly serviced car home last night the front right wheel/brakes are knocking, whining and vibrating. They replaced the tyres, i'm sure they have f--ked up the balance and they have not taken it for a test drive as they said they do. If I wasn't running late for dinner with my partner I would have turned it around and taken it back:( Don't want these guys doing a major job now.

Coopz,

If you don't mind travelling a bit, there's a fair chance you can get the timing belt replacement done at Portside Mistubishi for $400.

That's what it cost me to get mine done six weeks ago. Just the belt & labour, no pulleys or tensioner, but that's all you should need for the 100,000k change.

I can't see why they would charge more for a 3rd gen than a 380.

Probably about 8 months ago.

Cheers for that, I will give them a ring tomorrow.

Local Ultra Tune said they would do it for $350, I just hope the water pump is ok, if its leaking its another 350:(

Do yourself a favour and make sure pulleys and seals are replaced, just a belt is fine until your seals start leaking

I can look after you on the parts so if you can get labour quotes you may save a little more
