Hi guys

A couple of days ago I noticed a faint buzzing sound through the gears, mainly 2nd, 3rd and possibly 4th. Even does it in tiptronic mode with no gear changes. It sounds like a saw cutting timber, but is not loud (i.e. you have to listen out for it). It seems to be coming from the gearbox / front of the car.

Also seems to do it after you've been driving for a while and as the revs build up through each gear. It lasts for a split second in each gear then stops.

A few days ago I towed a very heavily loaded trailer for approx. 12 k's on a fairly straight stretch of road to the tip. I just hope I didn't do any damage .

Transmission (oil / gears / etc)?? Something else rattling e.g. alternator? Any ideas or feedback appreciated. It's an AWD with 5 speed auto box.

Cheers

Id be getting your trans looked at, mine made a few odd kinda buzzing/ scrubbing noises a few days before the trans let go...
Having gone through a trans myself id at least be changing the fluid.

Good luck with it and i hope your luckier than me :)

Thanks for the reply H0b1t.

Hopefully that won't be the case with mine. I had it checked by Mitsubishi a couple of days ago and they said it was fine.....the buzzing sound was the exhaust vibrating on a heat shield apparently. I hope they're right.

The Magna auto tranny does have a known fault with a washer that is known to break into at least 2 bits. If your lucky they just fall to the bottom of the pan and show up when you change trans fluid and/or flush the trans. If your unlucky it can wreck the whole trans. Expensive either way but more if it totals the trans.
