Look at the heat cured putty just outboard of the hood hinge.
Most likely it is cracked.
Carefully remove with a small screwdriver and reseal.

Just like the photo i took the LH fender off. It makes access to this area much easier. However all the other joints point downwards and don't direclty lead into to passenger compartment.

In the biggest mass of black goop closest to the hinge there was a triangle shaped gap, it was somewhere down there under the box section that water was getting in. I think it may have been in a front end prang at some stage, there's respray overspray in places, that could have led to the sealant cracking. In case it was a drain hole I put in a piece of garden hose so water could still pass through without getting inside, it exits where the white vertical sealant line is just to the right of that grommet.

Thanks guys for your tips about this leak. Yes the sealant is cracked and I am in process of fixing. Appreciate your help and references to other threads Colin Macca

Glad to help.
Don't use an acid based silicone sealer.
I used an acid free windscreen sealet, it is then possible to spray over the top. Now it dowsn't even look as if a repair has been done.
