View Full Version : Ecu tune
Gday guys,
I was talking to a mate today who suggested I look at getting a tune in the near future when I've finished my exhaust.
He said he did this on his VN commodore, basically went to the wrecker and took the chip out the ecu and sent it to a guy in Melbourne, cost him $50 for the tune. Makes it go harder, wants to rev out more and gives a better fuel mixture (was tuned to run on BP Ultimate 98)
My question is, is there anyone on this forum that can do this? or does anyone know anyone that can do it? I understand SKR can do them, but they are very expensive.
Thanks in advance
Matt

Rush you have the advantage of being in SA, so I would recommend going on the dyno if you're getting SKR to tune it for you.
I'd also put in 380 cams or otherwise before you get the tune if you're chasing power.
$300 for a tune? Cheap as, I just paid nearly $1000 for my tune :)

Yeah they're usually around 400, that's only if you can find them.
In my time at AMC I think there's only been 2-3 sets sold in the FS section. I bought one of them lol

If you're looking for extra power maybe consider upgrading to a 3.5l engine. you'd need an ecu out of a tj to get it flashed properly (th and earlier are very limited in what can be reflashed from what i've heard) and i haven't really heard much about retuning 3.0L engines might still get decent gains from it i just havent heard much about it.
oh and a 5 speed auto or manual box would make the car a fair bit quicker if acceleration is your goal. 4 speeds tend to slow things down a touch but yeah these are all a bit pricey so just go with waht you're happy with overall.

Can anyone message me the address of SKR? will mail my ecu to be tuned sometime but ill give them a call first....also does RPW still do stage 2 cams? i know they did make them but not sure how much as i cannot see them listed, and im guessing that would be a better option then upgrading to 380 cams.. Cheers Chris
