Guys, need your suggestions as what I should look at to get rid of this.

There are noticeable slight vibrations (I think from exhaust) between 2 and 2.5 k RPM under load only (ie when the car is driving)

As there was a small hole in the rear muffler, I recently changed my exhaust from Cat back, expecting this to go away but funnily the vibrations increased and were now from low RPM too. The car sounded like it had got a Canon fitted!

Got the car back on the hoist, noticed that the new cat back was touching the body, immediately got the mechanic to change the rubber hanger in the area which the exhaust was touching and that did get rid of the low RPM vibrations.

Things I believe I have got the mechanic to check but maybe he has not done so thoroughly:

1. Front and rear engine mounts (Front was changed about 30k ago)
2. Transmission mounts (Is there one?)

What I want him to check:

1. I want him to thoroughly check the manifold and the y pipe for any holes. Could this be the cause?
3. I want him to check all the hanger mounts on the exhaust. Could this be the cause?

He says the CAT is OK as it does not rattle.

Anything else I need looked at?

Car has done 225k, has been meticulously serviced including the transmission, timing belts and all.

Thanks

I suspect 2 reasons:-
First it is possible that the new exhaust is not sitting properly under the car. Try and take each hanger off in turn and make sure that the exhaust is not pulling at one or more hangers.

Second it is most likely at 225,000 Kms that your O2 sensor is not working. They are only supposed to have a working life of 100,000 to 160,000Kms.
Amazingly on my car, when I changed to a working sensor the almost painfull drone around 2000 rpm was much improved as well as the overall driveability of the car.

Changed the O2 sensor.

The vibrations have not disappeared but the fuel consumption has dropped. Consistently getting 550km to the tank now as opposed to just scraping past 500 before the change. So happy with that :woot:

The car is due for the 230k service. Please advise what else I should get looked at as this is real annoying.

Should I also change the front bit of the exhaust (From Manifold including the cat?)

Should I change all the hangers?

I believe the injectors need cleaning. Never been done and I have used fair bit of E10. Will this help?

Should I take it to a exhaust specialist?

Generally this will be the divider in the engine pipe vibrating, this part can come off the pipe and end up in your cat as well, remove the pipe, check the cat has not been damaged and where the Y peice is, open this up, remove the plate and weld back up again. If your exhaust place or yourself is good enought you can often hold it and re weld it once you drill some new holes
