Hi All,

Currently loving the standard audio set up in the 380 vrx with 6 stacker, but I'd like to add GPS/video/touch screen functionality.

One option I was thinking of was using an iphone/ipad with this:
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piemitspod.html

Has anyone used one of the above, and do they work with the 6 stacker head unit in a 380?
I'm still looking into a possible double din headunit which will work with the stock 380 setup, but until then i'm exploring my options.

If anyone has attempted this, please let me know your findings.
Is there any easier way to use some sort of AUX in? Like a hidden headphone socket I don't know about? I would rather use an android based tablet to be honest.

Cheers,
Leigh

I'm kinda in the same boat as you, Leigh - So I won't open a whole new thread.

I'm thinking along the same lines as you, only I don't really need a GPS, but would like a reversing camera, bluetooth and iPod connectivity.

I think I'm going to get a Parrot as my sister has one in her Ford Escape and it seems to get the job done. However, I have heard that the sound output isn't fantastic with a Parrot, and I still don't get a reversing camera.

One option I thought of was to get the double din fascia replacement (how much is this, any idea?) Then install a double din headunit of sorts (I was thinking either something Eclipse (expensive) or something Pioneer (cheaper)) This would give me iPod connectivity, buetooth, and would also give me the ability to hook up a reversing camera.

Biggest thing is price. A Parrot fully installed, which gives me iPod and bluetooth is around $650. A double din unit, plus reversing camera and the fascia unit is going to be well north of $2k, then you have the problem of you've ruined your nice stock looking car, so is it going to be harder to sell because you've changed stuff?

Thoughts?

Edit: Oh, and to answer your question about the iPod cable, I was reading a thread on here after a bit of searching the other day, and the guys were saying that in behind the stock 380 headunit there is a spot you can plug that cable into, and it will charge your iPod - otherwise you can get one of those small inverter ends that will charge the newer iPods.

that one wont work as our H/U dont have an aux input.

The biggest I have with a new headunit is integration, will it work with the steering wheel? Will it work with the command centre module up top?

If I can find one which does, i'll get it. The eclipse unit which replaced the avn6000 (standard double din gps 380) supposedly works, just not sure how. A few guys are attempting this soon so i'll be watching with close eyes.

The advantage of an AUX in (which sucks if we cant) is i can buy a tablet with all the features and then use the standard headunit when I don't need, and then i'll have a tablet for around the house too.

That makes plenty of sense, but with no AUX in makes it redundant.

It looks like a Parrot might be the go and I'll have to do without the reversing camera.

The only real way to get all the features you want in terms of aux imput,i-pod,gps,rear pre out etc,it to ditch the whole std stacker set up ,get a double din or single din set up.

Dont know how it will work with the top set up though

Arrrgghh ,the joys of modding and learning about a new car.

The factory eclipse double din didn't have the MFD screen thats how Mits got around the comm error being displayed (we have no hope if Mits couldn't even work out their own shit).

Any deck you replace the head unit with will give a comm error on the display. There are canbus modules out there but none made to work with the 380/Galant.

I'm wiring the 380 headunit to the boot & mounting it out of sight behind my sub so I will have a clean display.

Brett if you don't want GPS & don't want to spend a lot why not get one of those chinese double dins with display, camera input, cd/dvd & bluetooth. Cheap as chips & will sound just as good as the stock unit with the stock speakers. You will just have to put up with the small words of comm error on the screen or leave it on the date screen.

Hmmm, might have to suck it up and get a new head unit then.

There should be more units out there (other than the eclipse) which supports the steering wheel controls?

You can get a PAC unit to adapt them to pretty well all head units. I think the new Orion supports resistive type direct. I just bought the Clarion NX501A & am waiting for my PAC to turn up so I can install it all. Basically just buy the deck you like & then order the steering wheel interface if it doesn't support direct. They are pretty cheap on eBay & you can customize your buttons for the function you want.

Re the bolded bit above: That sounds cool: so does that mean you'll be able to put CDs into the stacker and play that through the new head unit too? Could you mount the old head unit somewhere more accessible (e.g. centre console near the handbrake) and use it as an AUX input to your NEW head unit: you get the best of both worlds then? Or am i just dreamin?

i think that Fooz it planning on having it plugged in just enough to get rid of the Com error. if you want the functions of a stacker you may as well buy a dedicated stacker to attach to the new headunit. 99% sure you wouldnt be able to use the existing unit as a stacker.

Well I ended up getting an Acer Iconia A500 for $330 today, awesome tablet for the price. Will use an FM modulator/transmitter to hook it up to the car, but has navigation/movies etc.

Tricky part now is working out how to build a mount for it lol.
