I'm after some info regarding 5speed auto installation (with 6g75) into a TH Sports.
I've searched for over an hour without luck but if anyone can point me towards a relevent thread i'd be greatful :)

The questions i have relate to the 5 speed auto part of the conversion/installation. I'm not interested at all in getting into the whole 'manual is better', 'go manual' discussion so please keep to the topic at hand :)

I have a TH Sports 4 speed auto, i've already removed the engine, gearbox and dash. All the looms are about to be removed and replaced with KJ Verada Series 1 looms, ecu, bem, dash, blackout cluster etc which i already have.

I have a 6g75 ready to go in once i've transferred all the bits over from the old 6g74 and replace timing belt etc.

Originally i was going to put my 5 speed manual in with it but have changed my mind and want to put a 5 speed auto in instead.
I have a 5 speed auto from a Series 2 TJ Sports and a 5 speed auto from a 380 SX (which is still attached to my 6g75) to choose from.

Basically my questions revolve around installing the 5spd auto from the 380 and what is needed/is it possible so...

- Has anyone done this conversion before and if so, can someone point me to the relevent thread please?

- Can it be done? Is the Magna/Verada engine loom and ecu etc capable of being plugged into the 380 auto and running it an do any of the plugs need to be modified to do so?

- Driveshafts...which to use? I have the Sports 5 spd auto, 380 5spd auto and a set of manual driveshafts and intermediate shafts. Or would i need custom shafts?

- I know the 380 auto doesn't have an output for the speddo but there seems to be a casting 'blank' or welch plug where it was on the 3rd gen boxes...can this be utilised for a 3rd gen speed sensor output?

Basically i'm after any info on past experiences, what i need to do, can it be done and how etc. All help and info much appreciated !!

Can't see why not. Your using magna auto with auto magna ecu.

Open up both workshop manuals from the magna and 380, got to the circuit diagrams and compare the circuits between the two cars. Also pay attention to the what goes to what pin and if the plugs are the same.

Can't be done mate as the shaft outputs will launch your tcu into limp mode. May work with l or w series ecu but definately not a j series

Sorry, i've re-worded my post. I was wanting to know if it was possible to use the auto from the 380.

Mal, do you mean the driveshaft outputs will cause the problems with the tcl (and i'm assuming abs system) or is it something else? If i delete the tcl from the ecu would that help?

Have you thought of swapping in all the ECUs out of a 380? Might be the way to go. Mal?

That will be a mammoth job, and if you're going to head that way you might as well do it with a galant not a 380. You'd have do the wiring in the whole car just about.
