Hello Guys,

After making a $1000 profit on selling my VR commodore v6 manual for $4200 (bought it originally for $3200 -amazing i know),

I just picked up this stock 2002 TJ Sports from the auctions for $5000, 5 speed manual, 172,000 kms.
Happy with the performance, amazing the amount of car you get with these things.

It's pretty tidy all round apart from the paint on the spoiler, i can't tell if it is a series II though ?, has digital climate, dual air bags.

Also is there anything particular i should get checked out ?

i just bought 2000 tj sport a week ago with the 5 speed triptronic. same color, same wheels. actually looks 100% the same. liking it so far.

Easiest way to tell the series is too look at the odometer. the series 2 has a digital odometer. series 1 tj have the analogue odometer

any modification plans?

Get a full service, check pads and all those consumables, check the engine mounts, see if your CV joints are making any noise/spitting grease.

Avoid axle tramping by putting your foot down from a stand still, this will destroy your diff lol

Will do, you mean 'not' putting the foot down from stand still, right ? :)

nice buy mate! i can tell you this it's a MY02 model Sports (virtually a series 1.5)- it doesn't have the digital cluster, everything else is virtually series two spec on that car besides the cluster and trip computer

Yeah that one lol.
Seriously though, mechanical sympathy is number 1, the open diff Magna manual boxes can't take much abuse.

Doesn't mean you can't go fast, just don't drop the clutch at 6k and slam the fast pedal lol

Nice car. Very lucky to get a manual too.

This is a series 1 but a MY02 model. Has the analog odometer but climate control. Apart from that its identical to the series 2 (series 2 added digital odo). Also has the passenger airbag option too.

The series 1 has the trip computer in the centre display, in the series 2 its where the digital odometer is.

Only difference is the early model TJ Sports from July 2000 to May 2001 have the VR-X spoiler, regular air conditioning controls and chrome door handles.

And some members on here thought i was an idiot when i said vrx and sports share the same spoiler. !

It actually has a trip computer ?

edit: ok so they change locations within series.

From what i can see it was originally a female owner for most of it's life which is good, timing belt is stamped as changed in log book to. (she obviously left the kitchen from time to time.)

Wanted black, but the green looks better then expected in person.

Not the only differences at all, the cluster (analogue, digital, combination of both) and the combination with the climate control/manual thingies is a big giveaway as to series 1, 1.5 or 2.

congrates on your new car mate, I purchased my series 2 tj sports manual a couple of months ago, awsome machines they are.
Our series 2's def have a lower rear spoiler(which I prefer) & another defference is the front blinker thats clear(s1's are orange). mines a black one except its actually a very dark green which looks black believe it or not.
get service done oil/filter/fuel filter etc, chance gearbox oil as well & add some Redline G70 gearbox oil additive if you find your shifts alittle stiff when cold, it works wonders.

Clear side markers have been done by a previous owner, they are from a 380 - Not standard on any magna.

It was the front blinkers I was referring to (next to the headlights) not the ones on the side, its a minor difference though its noticeable:)

Ahem... so do Daintree Green VR-X's.

What a great buy mate, good luck with the Sports.
I owned a TF Sports for 6 years, and when I was shopping for a newer model, I saw a few TJ Sports but I decided on the VR-X S2.

Would look sweeter with Series 2 Mags.

Dingers pretty much explained what to get and check.
