My tj idles loud and a little wobbly, but drives very smooth and seems ok on petrol. Had the throtle body cleaned, oil, trans fluid etc. at mitsubishi, but they had no idea how to get it normal. Not an exhaust leak, or timing belt, just had that done, full kit. Do I just wait til something breaks or does anyone have any ideas? engine mount? any ideas would be a help, i'm loathe to start spending on mods until i get the basics proper

No idea how to get it to normal? possibly try adjusting the idle with the little screw on the throttle body if you havent already.

So its just a bad idle on gas? Check the gas system if so. I know nothing about LPG systems, but I'd imagine its a matter of checking for pressure and/or leaks. LPG specialist would be my first stop.

Check and/or clean the MAF, heck clean it all - start from the air filter and work your way back. Check the electrical connection to your idle speed control motor. Clean the ISC circuit. If the ISC motor wasnt removed to clean the throttle body it could still be harbouring some grit/grime.

Check and clean the PCV valve.

Be careful adjusting that idle screw... its easy to stuff up.

when they replaced your timing belt did they replace the tensioner? I posted along time ago about this but they can make the car quite rattly on start-up - mine became noisy on my TJ very early on, well below 100,0000 kms, I think around 60,000 kms...

The idle was adjusted reset, the timing belt was a full kit, pulleys, tensionerf the lot. Before I had the timing belt done it was noisy to drive, after, no noise under any revs, but at base idle its just not right. My third Magna, so I know its a touchy thing, and hard to give ideas without hearing the car, the tensioner was my first thought, but I had it checked by another mechanic. I must say I can't believe how cheap the Mitsubishi mechanic was, I only asked about prices for service items to get a guide, but when they told me I jumped all over it, and thanks for the replies

Tensioner will not give a general noisy idle

Check your 2 drive belts, make sure they are nice and tight as when not tight these will give a noisy groan sort of noise especially when cold
