View Full Version : TMR Supercharger seeking expressions of interest from people

Hey people,

Some time ago i emailed sprintex asking about superchargers and they didn't have any. But they forwarded my details to TMR, who have emailed me now asking if I want to install a supercharger. Apparently they're in talks with sprintex to do a "batch" of these...

I told him i'd be pretty interested (depends on final price though) and that I'd see if anyone else here would be. Not sure of people's experience with TMR.

I asked about warranty and he said that Mitsu generally DO warrant the mods they do. I'm a total noob when it comes to mods though - but apparently if we can get enough people interested (i think he was hoping for about 20) then it could be a goer.

Nothing definite as yet...but i told him I'd put something on here to see what the interest is.

Edit: Oops - sorry to say the last installed price he said was about $6k...this could be about that I guess????

What do people reckon?

Cheers

I would be interested. However as I am in Adelaide what are the issues with installation.

They're in Melbourne and I'm in Brisbane - they said that they can arrange for delivery of the full kit and you just find a mechanic and autoelectrician to install...not sure how this affects warranty though - as he said that Mitsu warranty generally cover mods done by TMR. Doubt if they'll warrant if done by any joe's garage...

Well I'm out of warranty. I have a very good mechanic so I will speak to him and get a price. If I remember, Foozrcool bought the kit only.
What psi is the kit? I read that the original TMR setup was very low boost.

Depends which supercharger is installed. I remember reading FoozrCool saying something something about different itterations of the Sprintex superchargers and some of the earlier ones only produced something like 3PSI, which made barely any power at all.

..GONE..

Remember.. Fooz has a Series 5 blower IIRC.. the Sprintex blowers are supposedly asthmatic.. Correct me if I'm wrong..

I'm interested, but with conditions.
It must be the S5 blower or better.
It must come with full warranty for at least 2 years, even if the car's warranty has expired (like I think mine has).
It must come with full warranty if installed by a qualified mechanic, and not necessarily a Mitsu dealer (I'm thinking SKR).
I get a fair discount for not using the SMT6 ECU that I presume it comes with (I can use my existing ChipTorque Xede ECU which has wires for "boost in" and "boost out").

Hmmm this is tempting, but I'd also like to know about warranty etc. on not just the charger but engine also. Only curious at this stage.

Lets hope Fooz gets involved in this thread. His expertise and knowledge will be invaluable in my opinion

how can they warrant an engine they don't know the condition of? All they can do is create a "safe" tune, and send the kit out with a locked smt6 so that you have to use their tune. If you modify your engine you run risks of pushing it above its limits, especially if you do not stick with the supplied tunes.

BW if you're handy you can install it yourself. I put mine together myself although did some mods & tossed the sprintex ecu & 7th injector. I'm in Bris & could give you some pointers.

I'd imagine these would have to be the series 5 blowers & you will be looking at 6.5PSI at 6000RPM. From memory I think it gets up about 5psi pretty quick & then just flicks up to 6.5 over 5500RPM. It comes with a 76mm pulley stock & I have a 70 & 65 sitting here on my desk. Each pulley should be good for about another 2PSI. I might throw the 70mm on once I get the audio system finished but wouldn't go the 65 unless I rebuild the motor with forged internals.

Depending if these are series 5 or something bigger & better, I might grab another kit for a spare :)

thanks for the offer fooz. at the mo i'm only interested as i have warranty q's i need answered befor i do it...but i'll get some interest together and let the man know we have numbers and see what they do.

Sorry i don't have all the details ppl. I'll wait for all your q's to trickle in over the next few days then go back to him.

Cheers.

Fooz, can you explain to me the need for the 7th injector.

Foozrcool
13-09-2011, 05:06 PM
More fuel!! The stock injectors will max out so the 7th injector which is located just after the throttle body pointing striaght into the blower rotors provides additional fuel on boost so the engine doesn't lean out & go bang.

I put larger injectors in mine & have water/methanol injecting as an intercooler setup where the 7th injector used to be. Only downfall of this is the trip computer readings are all wrong now :P but more acurate fuelling to each cylinder :)

chrisv
13-09-2011, 05:14 PM
So its a lot more involved than just bolting on the kit?
Does the kit need a seperate intercooler

Foozrcool
13-09-2011, 05:19 PM
The kit is pretty easy to bolt up mostly & the install manual is very comprehensive. It doesn't need an intercooler & comes with a sprintex piggyback ecu pretuned.

I did extra work & mods to mine & ran my own piggyback etc plus the water/meth injection.

chrisv
13-09-2011, 05:42 PM
The water/ meth injection is to cool the air being drawn in? Why did you add this afterwards and why is it not standard. Sorry. this will be my last question (probably)

SAVAGE ³
13-09-2011, 06:14 PM
This kit is significantly easier to bolt on then the manga kit.
The TMR kit will also bolt into a magna if you use the 380 lower plenum and a modded fuel rail plus a few other small mods as per my build thread.

Yep cools combustion for a bigger bang. With the water/meth you can crank in a bit more timing for more go & it makes the tune safer. Because I already had extractors, exhaust etc & wanted to go 6 larger injectors, I had to do my own tune & used my existing Unichip Q. I have just bought a bigger better water/meth kit with a 250PSI pump, bigger tank & improved injector nozzle for better atomisation. The pump & all cabling are hidden with this design & just looks the part too.

I'm interested, any idea how much the kit is on its own?Are there any other modifications required or does the kit bolt on with no further mods along the line.

im interested in a supercharger but im not too sure on the price, 6k sounds abit pricey.. what engine mods will you have to do to make the supercharger work with the car? will you have to get cam upgrades ect ect.

Foozrcool
15-09-2011, 09:32 PM
$5000 kit only. This is a full kit & bolts up to the stock motor with all parts included.

chrisv

What is the suggested power increase in this standard kit?
I would not do the install myself so what should people allow for labour?
Cheers

Foozrcool
16-09-2011, 08:45 AM
I'd be guessing around 30% increase & power & torque on a stock motor .... must have the 90mm Galant Intake!

Should be good for about 170kw atw or up around 185kw atw with extractors & exhaust or a bit more if you start playing like me.

Above applies to the auto .... obviously the manual would be a bit more.

i would be interested in supercharger - depending on the price of the kit + install and other mods needed for the car - the whole cost etc. but my time frame would be maybe a year or so...

Maybe warranty related. They might not want to warrant a bunch of early series one to the same extent as a late series three.

Anyone contacted their insurance company about this.
Fooz, what was your companys reaction to fitting a supercharger?

Foozrcool
27-09-2011, 06:56 PM
No probs at all, it is listed on my policy. I said I have fitted the factory option supercharger which it was at the demise of the 380.

Was it for legal reasons with turning an NA car FI, or because they didn't source the parts so can't put a warranty on anything?

Hey firie (and everyone)

I got a response from Jon at TMR last week in which he said: "I’m still in talks with Alan about Supercharger kits for the 380’s, but he’s very reluctant at this point for the simple fact is that if we want to supply these units, Sprintex requires a minimum order of 20. But, once I receive a rough pricing from him, I’ll let you know. Then we can get an idea if these would be viable for us to supply/fit. "

So - at the moment that's where it stands. I had, in the end, 11 people say they were interested...so not sure if TMR will go ahead based on those numbers...

Only thing I can do at the moment is wait and see???:doubt: But, I guess, at the moment it's looking doubtful it'll get the go-ahead...

Rang Mark Ambrosis at Sprintex today, he seems to be the man to take to about the 380, he said he wasn't aware of any moves for a production run of superchargers for the 380, but said he has had some enquiries from 380 owners. He said he would require around 20 orders for a production run and make it financially viable for both parties as you know. He was really keen to make it happen with TMR and said to definately keep in touch with the numbers with him as well. His details are P- 08 9262 7277, E- mark@ATGgroup.com.au.

Hi guys, here is some other option on supercharger... I have looked at their web site and I am impressed... I am also tempted to get Falcon FG XR6 and get it supercharged by these ppl... just an idea... pity they are so far up north for us Sydney siders...

"Hi Marc

We have excellent results from the Magna kit, these same results and better will be what we expect from the 380. The Raptor kit is the most powerful kit for the price in Australia for Mitsi V6

I have no idea of final price but think around $6800 roughly for full kit

Kindest regards
