Hi guys. Still putting along with the 2g project. Time is becoming easier to find these days so im make more progress then ever. Tonight i went for a full refit of the rear suspension components. While i was at it i dummy fit my coilovers. Some questions i should have asked haha
The coilovers i have are external resiviour type. Because of the panhard rod in the back of the 2g rada i cannot have them facing with the tank at the back. When i turn them around there are no issues other then it fouls on the top plate of the rear tailing arm (mounting part of the solid rear axle) This plate ISNT solidly mounted the the trailing arm section it is bolted down through rubber grommets to allow flex. To me this means i can shave 8mm off the back end of it to give the clearance i need without effecting how it performs? assuming its just a cover plate to allow the mounting of the handbrake cable? Maybe a pic would help
Also ive seen people buy and intall rear sway bars to these cars. How they are fitted to me suggests that they acutlaly work by not allowing the solid rear axle to flex/twist forward and back, and due to design of the suspension in these cars i can se ehow this would assist and due the job its supposed to do but i will ask: Could this same effet be acheived by just welding gussets to the underside of the rear axle making it stiffer, and since i will have uprated suspension in the rear at each corner, when one wheel lifts or tucks it will have the same effect as the 2nd gen sway bars on the market namely Selby's/whiltelines.
ALso what effect would welding gussets to the panhard rod achieve? i can do this cheaply myself. shoudl i just do it and report back? they are easy to change, maybe ill get around to trialling it once the car is roadworthy again
Thanks for any input guys
Lionel
