Hi folks,

Having trouble with the handbrake only holding on 1 rear wheel when applied..

Haven't worked on 1 on these cars before :(, so a little unsure what I'm in for, any suggestions, diagrams etc you can throw my way ? :facejump:

I have the exact same issue with my 98 magna. Locks onto the rear left wheel only. Would like to know what to do as well

All that needs doing is adjust the handbrake shoes by removing the rear wheels and adjusting them. This is covered in the downloadable manual: http://www.lisho.net/?page_id=3
Also covered here: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75377

Or put simply, 1) Jack up rear end, 2) take off rear wheels, 3) remove small round black rubber cover from brake rotor to access handbrake adjustment, 4) stick flat head screw driver in the hole and flick adjustment wheel up or down to adjust handbrake shoe until both engage at the same point, 5) put everything back on, 6) hektic handbrakeys uleh!

I'd advise to download the manual as it contains comprehensive information on performing this operation especially if you are unfamiliar with the design which is a bit different to other cars. It will take a whole morning to do this job and you wouldn't want to have to do it again like I had to - I didn't replace and tighten the wheel nuts against the brake disc after removing the tyre rim to stop the disc/drum moving around. This caused me much angst to say the least and I lost blood and skin once I lost my cool. The manual covers everything and best of all it is free.

I've adjusted mine so many times now it's not funny. All that ends up happening is that the RH drum begins to drag once you start using the park brake because the cable seems to just stretch every time you re-adjust them. To kill the issue once and for all I'm sure all that needs to happen is the handbrake cable needs to be replaced.

I took my car to a Mitsu dealer and told them what was going on - they adjusted the RH shoe so that it doesn't actually work (which stops the squealing when it drags) and I pretty much just load up the trans by using park only ;)

It'll do me for now, but it will be interesting to see what other people get up to.

Cheers and beers
