Hey guys,
I've got a 2004 Magna 3.5L ES Wagon (Model no. TL8D46). I have no idea on the specs for the speakers in the car. Nothing in the owners manual either. Any ideas?
Also, anybody got any suggestions on what sort of audio system to put in the car? I have ~$1000 to spend.
Cheers :)

Hey mate are you after speakers for that $1000 not including sub and amps + head unit?

Assuming that they didn't change from the TF (hope not) then it'll be 6x9 in the rear and you can fit 6.5 in the front doors...

Sounds about right to me i got 6 inch in fronts and 6x9's in rears....but i don't think personally you could get a "good" system that will last for only $1,000? maybe 4 speakers that's it

I'll have a crack at that... As long as you have the Speakers sizes right.....
125 VDO Daytons 6x9's (will give you Doof of a head unit).
100 Sound deadening doorkit for the interior of the wagon door, just enough to go 25cm around the speaker on the inner skin only, don't want the door to heavy. Should have enough to do the front.
300 for your favourite set of splits.
320 for the JVC KD-r926 Bluetooth/USB/Ipod 24 Bit DAC's and Time correction.
40 for the Verada Tweeter Pods.
40 Wiring
30 for Harnesses.
A small amount for MDF mounts for the doors anmd you still have enough for a carton while you put it in.
No Battery wiring, will run all day, No Subs to flying about in an Accident. No loss of space.
This is just one system... There are heaps more variations on this theme, using any or none of it.
The H/Unit has Bluetooth for safety, and 6 Preouts Just in case you want to upgrade later......
Edit: If the system seems to lack a woofer - its cause the budget lacks funds.

Heres one above the budget.....
$300 Kicker 4 Channel amp (http://www.ryda.com.au/Kicker-08ZX350-4-ZX-4-Channel-Amplifier-p/zx3504.htm). Running a sub and splits..... Only rears off the H/Unit if you wish. Good for about 80 watts to the fronts and about 200 to the Sub, they do Kick.
$210 Kicker Splits (http://www.ryda.com.au/Kicker-KS6-2-6-KS-Component-Speakers-p/ks62.htm)Not the cheapest set they do, the front stage is very important, Subs only 25-80 Hertz in most systems, these take care of the rest 80-12000.
$185 JVC USB (http://www.ryda.com.au/JVC-KD-R626-Car-CD-Tuner-p/kdr626.htm)CD Deck [/URL]with 6 Channel per-outs, just enough - moneys tight.....
$150 Kicker 150 WRMS (http://www.ryda.com.au/Kicker-07C124-Comp-Series-12-Subwoofer-p/c124.htm)will easily get pounded by that amp. Just get a ported box.
$90 Ported Box.
$90 4Ga 4 Channel wiring Kit (http://www.ryda.com.au/Aerpro-MX404-800W-4CH-Amp-Wiring-Kit-4GA-p/mx404.htm)
Thats under 1050.00 :woot:
I'd still add the verada mounts (40) if the tweeter fits in them, they are an ideal custom mount if they work for you.(see my ride, that's the tweeter in the triangle in the door) (http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Shootmarty/Audio%20Mods/IMG_1066.jpg)......
And a Bit of sound deading if can.
And BTW, I had to dig around to get a fascia to get the JVC I posted previously to sit just nice But it would be well worth the small amount extra for the KD-R926 JVC's 24 Bit DAC's Bluetooth, app mode for Ipod and Time correction.
So thats about 1200.00 not including the wiring harness, but if you are handy, you can get around it easily with just one, solder the JVC supplied adaptor to a Magna harness. (Harnesses are about 15 ea.)
The JVC will operate your leccy antenna, dim with the lights and is colour changeable.
Plus install.
I kept with the one Brand, they do good stuff, will last a while, has a bit of street cred, and go and hassle JB HiFi with list, and get it installed by someone who has been recommended to you by a friend (or two).
The key to get this cheap with an amp and sub all in your budget is keeping that 150 Watt sub in the system, don't be tempted upgrade the sub, you will have to get a bigger amp if you do.

Those Kicker splits look quite good... some good reviews out there.
The Polk DB6501s, Crescendo 1s and Morel Maximo's might also be worth a look for similar money (well... perhaps a little more).

I agree that the splits could be upgraded, your suggestion are Nice, one thing I would choose is a nice crossover with variable tweeter volumes, i.e. 0, -3Db and -6Db just so you can tone down the tweeter as the mid in the door is so low/impeded.
But the point of why I did it, is to prove that it can be done. And with decent gear too.

+1 for the JVC KD-R926. Installed mine about 2 weeks ago, really great value for money. You can pick one up for aprrox. $270 on ebay.
If the OP needs the boot space in the wagon, you can run some good 6x9s on low pass filter on the amp, instead if a sub. Gives nice bass. A cheaper alternative is get a 2ch amp, and run splits off that and 9x6s of the HU. Only if a sub is not wanted.
