hi guys,
after a bit of advice and your thoughts. car has been slowly dripping trans fluid over the last few weeks, and today the main seal blew and a lot of fluid leaked out. pulled over straight away to avoid any further damage if any has been done at all. car is a 2005 TW series 2 with about 72,000kms on it.

do you think the trans will be damaged? estimates of cost of repair? anyone else dealt with the same problem?

thanks in advance :)

What seal was it that let go - drive shaft or input shaft (inside bell housing)? Best bet is to check the fluid level to see how much is left & don't run the engine till the seal is replaced & the fluid topped up. A road test will show up any tranny problems (auto). Have had to change drive shaft seals before cost was about $20.00 per seal plus approx 1.5 hrs labour & 4 ltrs mits tranny fluid.

id say most likely the drive shaft seal. havent been able to put in on a hoist yet to have a good look. is it a hard job to replace? the fluid level was at the bottom of the hot level mark.

If you have the tools & experience to do an engine change out then replacing a drive shaft seal isn't that difficult. If you don't have the tools or experience then you're better off taking it to a mechanic.

Just out of interest, why would the seal blow - I didn't think this part of the transmission was under pressure?
