3rd gen TH: My gear changes are starting to get a little notchy, so it's time to change the manual trans fluid. Was looking at the following 3 products. Any advice and recommendations? Do I use GL4 and avoid GL5 rated lubricants?

(a) Castrol Syntrans 75W-85

(b) Redline MT90

(c) Mobilube XHP 75W-90.

go with the 75-90 in a penrite, or i believe it nulon that also makes it, its a little thicker oil too, and probably use a syn oil if you can afford it, i nearly fell over the other day when i saw 2.5 liters of gear oil for $99

Any of those will be OK, or Penrite or Nulon 75W-90.

But it must be GL4, don't use GL5, GL5 is bad for Mitsu manual transmissions.

I replaced my stock Mitsu MTF with Nulon 'smooth shift' about two years ago, and the gear changes in the lower gears were still a little stiff and graunchy when dead cold.

I whacked two 125ml tubes of Nulon G70 MTF additive in, big improvement.

A couple of months ago I changed MTF again, this time to Redline MT90, based on many good reviews and recommendations of this MTF. Got a 3.8 litre bottle (just right for a 3rd gen or 380 box) from an Oz based eBay seller for $90 + $20 postage. Not a lot more than it will cost you for 4 litres of one of the other recommended MTFs.

Same problem as before with stiffness and graunching in the lower gears on cold mornings, so again I whacked in a couple of 125ml tubes of Nulon G70, again it improved things a lot.

I only use MT90 in my 3 cars 2 magna's and a lancer. Its pricey about $130 for 3.5 lt but well worth it the difference is amazing.it smooths gear changes outstandingly.

Thanks for the info. I'll give Redline MT90 a go.
