Hey Guys...

I am thinking about pulling off the black plastic moulding strip which runs down the side of the car. Does anyone know how it is fixed to the car? On most cars it is fixed with strong double sided tape but I went to a panel beater the other day and he seemed to think that there were holes in the body and it clipped in. He was talking about pulling it off and then bogging the holes.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the deal is? It is stuck on, or is it clipped on?

Cheers guys!

you mean the things down the side along the bottom that some paint the colour of the car?

i would imagine propper holes and screws or plastic clips, tape wouldn't be very perminant for something that big

On mine its got holes and plastic clips, slide into the black thing and then push into the hole. I had to replace two strips on my rear doors cos after it got parked into they were really frigged up.

on 3rd gen magna side plastic moulding is very thing and i really doubt if it will be dobule sides tape only .

i think its dobule sided tape + some sort of clips .

I would rather suggest to go to your mitsu dealer first and ask them before removing yours :)

its stuck on with adhesive. i wouldnt reccomend taking it off as it can be a s1ut to put back on. however, if you are thinking of painting it, i suggest buying new ones from mitsu as they come with adhesive, ready to be put on. from memory $60 per side i think?! although some people have taken them off and reattached without any dramas, i personally wouldn't try, just incase they break/bend/snap.

Just take them off, spray em' up to color match your car and wack em' back on again. Make sure you get a good double sided tape (buy it from autopro or bursons) and use tape with "padding" in between as apposed to thin double sided tape as it does not work.

Its pretty simple, they come straight off, there is holes along there, they are like "pop" in holes, not screws or anything. You just start at one end pulling it off, trying not to bend the plastic bits as this makes it harder to put them back on.

Half day job including painting (as long as the temp is over 25oC)

I was actually thinking of taking them off.... and leaving them off :-)

Then give the paint underneath a good cut and pollish.... Hence why I was wondering if there were holes in the body work as they would be exposed!

Spewing. That's what I wanted to do. HSV did that with the Commodore for VR-VS and I'm not sure about VT onwards. But it looked way better. Someone else also suggested bogging up the valley that's left, sanding it back and spraying it over.

Redav - That's where I got the idea from. All the SS and HSVs have no moulding in the valley. Looks heaps better I reckon! :-)

Still... I suppose painting the strip will be an improvment!

Looks good mate. Have you just removed the moulding and buffed up the paintwork underneath or is there a little more to it?

Looks different.. I think it would grow on me, but the bottom grey part looks totally out of place now, and the mirrors need to be colour coded too.. then it would be nice

Gotta agree with you there, mysti. I think if everything was colour coded it look awesome! I was always under the impression that there were holes under the moulding for it to clip in to... or have you bogged them up? :-)

That's actually a photochop. With this car, ultimately it would have the VR-X skirts, arches with colour coded mirrors and maybe door handles.

I thought it might have been a photochop... there was no valley where the moulding usually sits!

That's right, the idea was to fill it in as to remove the strip and valley, not just colour code the strip.

Looks way better - but would be helluva job..... Cost?
I'd just color-code them.

wouldnt be a hard job, take off strips (its in greogorys manual) get some bog, bog it up sand it smooth either u paint it urself or u take it too a panel beater to paint (my case panel beater coz i cant get my colour paint off the shelf :doubt: ) not a big job, just take ur time thats all :)
