Hey guys,

A weird sound has started in the last couple of days. It happens when making a sharp right hand turn as I turn the wheel. The noise happens just once and when I tried replicating the same turn it didn't happen again.

It seems to only happen once every 5 or so sharp turns and doesn't seem to matter if I'm going slow or fast. The noise is pretty dull and you can kinda feel it through the steering wheel.

Any ideas before I take it to a mechanic?

It only does it when you turn.? Kinda feels like you drove over a brick.? All good when you drive straight.? If these are your symptoms then I'm sorry to say that it will be a diff. I've done three and that's exactly what happens. Start looking for a second hand box as that one will stop very soon and you can put a time on when. That is my opinion but please get a professional to look at your car.

Although it may be just a CV. That is worse and best case.

Not quite as bad as driving over a brick, its a pretty quiet sound. If I had the stereo on a moderate volume I wouldn't notice it. From a bit of googling it sounds like bad ball joints.

Although it wouldn't surprise me if the diff was close to letting go.

No, I haven't been able to replicate it whilst stationary.

I would be looking at CVs then.

My car used to clunk on one side every now and again. It was because my shock was worn and the water got to it when wet. As you say it just randomly happened. If it's been wet i'd say this is your problem, very common with large cars especially commodores. If it hasn't been wet i have no idea.

Now that you mention it I did go through the car wash the day before it started lol.

Wait till its had a few days to dry out, usually took my car about 2 days for it to go away. If it doesn't go away get your car checked.

+1 for the shocker, had the same issue in a corolla once took it in to get new tyres put on and while it was off the ground and we could have a good look discovered the drivers shock was buggered. With no wieght on it we could wobble the strut.
