Hey guys,
Ok so I got my new head unit today and was putting it in and it was all good and working for about 5 minutes then all power disappeared (key was turned to accessories). Now the car wont start. It just makes a ticking noise when i try to start it. I've tried taking the head unit out, looked at the fuses, left it for half an hour then tried again and nothing works.. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it? Even if I can get it started so I can drive it like 1km to a mechanice. Dad reckons I broke it because I didnt disconnect the negative from the battery but can that happen? It was my first time putting a head unit in so I think I'll leave it to the pros next time. The car is a '98 Magna TF Wagon Auto.
Anything would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

Your battery is flat. You should be able to jump start it.

What did you earth the head unit to?

How does the battery drain that quickly though? Um, I just attached all the coloured wires to their places then there was a thicker black wire which I attached to a pre-existing wire that looked like it was just attached to a screw. Where is it recommended that I earth it to?
Thanks heaps

The black wire is your earth, so yeah, it should be attached to a screw or something metallic on the body which is what you're describing.

It sounds like maybe you're created a short somewhere and you're losing all your power through that. Maybe it's something you did during the install that's been corrected, so when you charge the battery it may be fine.

Yeah the earth is attached to a metal bracket. Ok well I'll let it charge then take it to someone who knows what their doing. Thanks again for the help
