i have a tj vrx that is on 20"x 9.5" (i think 8.5" but ol matey says 9.5") rims with 245 30 20 tyres. i have had to grind the inner parts of the wheel arch flares away form the 2 outside clips all the way around! i am still scrubbing on fast corners etc, i went to ozzy tyres today and they were no help at all (busy) but i got prices on coilovers! not too bad. i am considering it but i dont realy want to bother if i can get some sort of performance shocks that will do the same thing? prices started at $1300 and went up to the 3k mark! he said the new line of coilovers ($1300) were just as good as the $2300 ones! but be F'd if im going to spend the money and have it scrub still! im willing to take the flares off completely and just go with tubbing the guards but idealy id like to keep em on! whats your ideas?

could run these cheaper way of getting coilovers http://otomoto.shop033.com/c/4037307/1/sleeve-kits.html
and just get some good shocks

by the sounds of it you are scrubbing because you have lowered it too far and under spring compression you are getting contact. A cure not a fix is to get stiffer springs. if they are stiff enough they will stop it. Alternatively you could camber the wheels in slightly so more of thw wheel can go inside the gaurd undercompression before it will contact tge gaurd. It depends on how bad the scrub is.
I had scrubbing thatwore nearly 1mm off the sidewalls. wrecked the rubber very quickly. If its just a touch here and there 2-3mm of space could solve your problem

not lowered at all! standard vr-x springs and shocks! im guessing the shocks are rooted but they feel stiff as a board when i bounce it from outside the car!
camber kit! hhmmmm sounds good in theory but the tyres are clearing the strut towers be about 2-3mm
Coil overs will not necessarily stop it from scrubbing, not unless they are so stiff that your suspension can't travel it's normal range, and then you'll have a pretty rough ride.
I've read of many people removing flares and rolling the guards to accommodate big wheels & tyres, so that might be the easiest option.
Oh yeah, if the tyres are scrubbing the plastic liner, but not the guards, then I hear that the plastic liners can be moulded a bit by using a heat gun (or hair dryer) and pushing them away from the tyre contact point.

^^^what OGGY said check to see whats rubbing. Also upgrading shocks wont do a thing for scrubbing under compression. Thats a spring issue. Like i said and OGGY has restated, stiffer springs CAN solve the issue but only because it stops the wheel travelling far enough to rub. Its a bandaid fix.

Rip the flares off and roll the guards mate. Flares are useless as far as aero and fitting wider wheels is concerned due to being attached simply over existing guard. If anything they add drag :P Remove them and chances are your problem is solved. As for suspension mods: if you want your car to improve handling then go for it. If for fixing the rubbing - don't bother.

Are you having scrubbing issues on the front or on the rear?

Both, only when cornering or hard on the brakes whilst hitting bumps etc, not too much of an issue but wanna stop it all together, guess that's what I get rolling with 9.5inch wide wheels

I had a look on the Bboss website, and your rims only come in 20x8.5", not 20x9.5".
On the rear I imagine you will need to roll your guards. I have 18x8" rims and had mine rolled as a precaution - I think I could have gotten away with it though. I've seen Sufz's Verada with 20" rims and and 245 tyres and they sit a bee's dick away from the lip.
Have you taken your flares off and gone for a drive? That way you can see if maybe you just need to take some more off the inside lip of your flares.

Not to try shut u down bud, but me and life measured them last weekend and surprise surprise they are 9.5 inches from inner edge to outer edge, 245 wheels are tapered in alot!! But yeah just gotta take some more off the inner side of the flare, I'll take em off the day one snaps from it

there isnt a need to measure them, the width is stamped on the back as well as the offset. what is the offset by the way?

Offset is inside (under tyre) only markings on the back is PDF etc, I have pics of every marking behind wheel I will post up tonight, it's a spin out
