Hey all,

New to the forum and magna's.

Im having a look at a 97TF Exec (3.0L V6)

Auto - 160K km's

Full service history - 2months rego

$6900 neg

Is this cheap? ballpark? expensive?

From my quick research (redbook and tradingpost) it seems like a pretty good deal but I thought Id ask the experts.

Cheers,

XBenX

Yeah that's about average, pretty good really. You definitely aren't like getting jipped. I would go for a manual though If I was you, a lot better and cheaper but either way the cars still good. I might see how I go and wait until the New Magna is released next year as the value of 3rd gens will go down a lot and then cash in.

Is this true? I was kind of under the impression the manuals would cost more because they're quite a bit harder to find than Autos.

Okay I find it is the opposite and is backed by the prices recorded by Redbook.
eg. Manual (http://www.redbook.com.au/vehiclesearch/price.asp?key=MITS00HT)
vs Auto (http://www.redbook.com.au/vehiclesearch/price.asp?key=MITS00HU) . This is usually the case as probably 90% of people who have Magnas own Autos and the Autos in pretty much any class car are around $2,000 more expensive when brand new and they usually keep this slight price dominance.

You forget that we are car enthusiasts and many of us prefer manuals. The average person doesn't especially since half of the world is female. Think about it if 90% of people prefer automatics and only 10% prefer manuals, then the autos are more widely accepted, there is more demand for them and u can put the price up for them. If only 10% of people prefer manuals, there is a much small potential market and so any price around about what is it worth will do so to speak. Automatics also cost more to build from the factory. Sorry to be so technical guys just wanted to clarify.

Sounds good but I have since found out that they never made a black TE from what I could gather only a gun metal grey one. If it's a custom black thats awesome but yeah not sure bout the colour. I still think u can go better, I have seen TE's for $6500 with average kms and saw a KF Xi Verada with average kms sell for $7400 !!! at an auction and a 2000 TJ for $10,000 - That is what I would call a steal. Not sure what Sydney is like though in comparison to Perth.

Red book is full of crap ive found take a look on carsales or something to get a true comparison. Manuals are a bastard to find in decent condition aswell. That looks like a pretty good deal VRX_MY02 found. I thought i got a good deal on mine but looking at all these other deal now, it doesnt appear so lol.

Redbook use quantative facts. What most people don't realise and its impossible to get through to them sometimes is that just because you see a car advertised for X amount of $$ doesnt mean it gets sold for X amount of $$. You might see cars on carsales.com.au asking for an extra $1000 or $2,000 than Redbook because they want to make a profit. But the price they are asking for initially and the price they end up selling the car for are almost always different. This is where people get the misinterpretation that Redbook is full of crap because they see cars adverised for more than what Redbook says. If you think the Redbook average private selling prices are BS check out the trade-in prices. Thing is those trade-in prices are realistic of how much big companies will try and jip you.

For example: 12months ago Redbook had a 93 Holden Apollo as $4700 - $6400 and all the Apollos were all over $6,000 in the papers. The average kms for this price from Redbook was roughly 165,000kms My brother waited patiently - almost 3 months before picking up a Holden Apollo in mint condition with only 105,000 kms for $5,700 and it was running like a new car and has had no problem with it since. On the other hand I know people who have paid $4,000 more for a car worth only $8,000.

Point is it comes down to TIME + LUCK + KNOWLEDGE
