Hi All
Have decided to sell off my 1999 Magna Altera Sedan LH TS, dual fuel, 154,000k's on the clock. It is recently serviced however needs a new muffler. I've been advised I could get $1500 for it at Mazda (I'm looking to buy a Mazda 6). Anyone got a ball park idea of what I could get for it privately?

You might be able to get $3000 privately. But that would depend on the condition of the car. If you're going to sell it privately you'll need to get it roadworthy'd for people to even look at it. So factor in the cost of replacing the muffler + whatever else needs to be done.
I was in the same situation as you recently. I decided to trade mine in for around the same amount because I knew getting a roadworthy on mine would end up cancelling out the extra money I'd get from a private buyer.

You're practically giving it away at $1,500. Honestly, even though it's 12yo, with the low kms (& presuming it's otherwise in good shape) it would have to be worth $3K and maybe more as RightNow has suggested. Dealerships are scum.

Gday mate just quickly, you will get wholesale value through a dealer as you are looking at a new car. They wont clean it up and resell it as its way to old and high k's for a yard who sells new cars. You are better off selling it privately. Try carsales, its relatively cheap and you get a broad audience. I agree with RightNow you need to balance roadworthy costs (and spend) on the vehicle and see if it weighs up. If you cant be bothered just trade or sell it to someone who will appreciate it, like me :) Good Luck!
