Hey guys just wanting on some information i got a 5 speed Tippy Auto Magna and just got a new tip instead of the standard one and just wondering if its legal and possible of instead having the chrome surroundings im looking at getting a leather boot fabricated to look like a manual. i am aware that this would hide the information like P, R, N and Drive etc but it would still appear on my cluster. is this considered a legal mod even though ill be able to see what gear im in? thoughts? Cheers

Possible? Yes. Illegal? I believe it is against ADRs to have them concealed but when my car was still auto I never had any problem.

A manual gearboot cabletied to the base of the auto gearknob will work just fine.

Thanks mate how much did the leather setup cost you? if you don't mind me asking? would be keen to do it myself if it was a much cheaper option

BTW were can i find cluster colored bulbs to suit my 2005 VRX

Those are EL Dials.. Available on eBay.

The leather shifter boot does look pretty good though..

Might give it a whirl and see how it looks..

So is it confirmed that the boot setup is considered illegal? i got a friend who does/sells dash bulbs so ill ask him for a blue set :)

From what I've seen, Mercs and Beemers with auto and leather boot have the indicators outside of the boot base.

yeah my mums golf has them outside....i spoke to a few other people they seem to think that as long as i can see what im doing it shouldn't matter as its all on the dash

Yep the dash was the reverse glow EL gauges off ebay and as far as the gear boot goes, just get the vinyl one from the Mits parts department.

Can someone send me a link to the glowing gauges? keen to have a look? are they legal? and as for the boot i got a friend who is a auto upholstery worker and ill get the leather boot and handbrake boot off him for cheaper then normal
