Hey guys!!!
Very important question...
My sub amp keeps going into protect mode due to a VERY inconsistent power supply. like on a solid bass kick its dropping from 12v to like 9.9v im already running 2guage for the power supply and have a batter more than capable of providing the supply... any suggestions.
Hey dude,
Most likely a poor ground.

Its grounded in 3 different places and i couldnt ground it better if i tried (1 of them is also pr installed)
Is the paint sanded off the metal where its grounded?

My suggestions, keeping in mind its not how many grounds you have, but WHERE you ground them.
Run one ground straight from the battery to the chassis (you can replace the stock one under the airbox with a new run).
Run one to the Engine Block (Same thing applies here)
Run the last one to the bracket of the Alternator.
Then upgrade the power run to the Alternator, so if you using 4 gauge for the grounds run a 4 gauge power run, and replace the factory one. Be sure to fuse the new run with a 120amp fuse.
Edit: More info.
Ensure you have also grounded your amps in the boot (assuming you have them) to the same spot. If this fails try re-doing your headunit ground, running it straight to the battery if need be.
Could also be your alternator giving up. Does your amp do this just when idling or also when moving?

its only cuts out when its working hard, nothing wrong with alternator or battery, amp is grounded to sanded back metal (no paint) in the boot, as well as the battery, and also a chasis bolt in the boot well (under where tyre sits)
i went to lifestyles in north parra and they suggest a... im having a mental blank on the name of it... aaaanyway they think that may be the issue. It starts with a C and it regulates the flow of electrivity throught the 2 guage nah im absolutely blanking on the name.

any pics of the install?
what amp?
Capacitor. I'm assuming this only happens with the engine off. If your dropping to 10v with the engine on then your alternator is fubar or the amp has a serious ground leak! Either way ground leak is still an option.
As ammo said, what equipment are you using? Amp, battery.

I haven't heard a good thing about a cap yet. What terminals are you using on the battery? Could a dual battery in the boot maybe be another option thats around the same price as a decent cap?

This. You should NEVER need a capacitor. It's wank factor.
Check the terminal difference on the battery while the bass is pumping. Also, can you possibly get pics of the grounding point and the amp terminals?
More generic questions:
* What Amp/Sub(s)?
* How long has this been happening?
* Does the Amp get hot?
* Is it power protect or temp protect?
* Are you sure it isn't a short circuit of some type (stray wires touching in fuse housing, etc)?
Well as much as I dislike caps... Wank factor is going a bit overboard. They can suffice as a fix for power supply issues in certain situations, but whatever can be resolved by a cap should ideally be resolved by getting to the source of the problem.
