Hi All,

Just took some pics of my VRX before and after lowering. I used king superlows for the front and lows for the rear. I wasn't too sure what to expect as the VRX is lower than standard but it certainly dropped nicely.

I also discovered the VRX uses Monroe GT Gas shocks, well mine does anyway. All in all the handling is even sharper (not that it wasn't brilliant before) and the car looks insane. The springs are still settling and with 2 people in the car the tyres and well and truely into the guards.

Definatly a reccomended modification for any VRX Owner. No clearance problems as yet. Hope you enjoy the pics, the after photo's look a little wierd due to the sunlight...

Cheers

Blake,

You say you have not had any clearance issues "yet"....

Try this for me....

With a passenger in the front, pull out of a driveway with a decent slope turning the wheel to the right, does the front left tire rub at all?

I have king lows front and back in my VRX and it rubs occasionally, still haven't worked out exactly which part of the guard/arch is rubbing.

Cheers!

VRX-MY02 - you will find that the rubbing is the front of the tyre at full lock rubbing against the front of the wheel arch guard inside the tyre - if you put it at full lock and look - you will see.

ShaunV8 - had a brilliant idea - basically pull the wheel off - pull the clips off so that the wheel gaurd is free - push it further back and redrill the attchment points - of course always looking to make sure you don't drill into anything - and then put the clips back in - this will hold the plastic gaurd out of the way and stop the rubbing.

On level ground at full lock, the clearance between the tire and wheel arch seems fine. Mitsubishi actually replaced the entire wheel arch for me under warranty before I lowered the car, as it was rubbing at that point. I think it could be somewhere at the top of the arch. It only occurs when there is a passenger in the front combined with the suspension travel while driving off a slope.

ShaunV8's idea seems plausible, I may look into that.

I was just interested to see if Blake experienced the same issue with his VRX, as I know others have with theirs.

I tested lock to lock on hills, flat surfaces and my gf's driveway which is a nasty incline and not a single scrubing problem. Although clearance is bloody close to scraping on my gf's driveway lol

The lowest point on the car is 10.2cm so im just above legal limits so im stoked with that, just hopeing they don't settle any lower lol

As for rims, jesus i have no idea, i just can't find a set im really stoked with yet... Any idea's lol

Pines i don't there there are two versions of springs for the 4cyl and 6cyl model magna's. Its the same spring so im told. My 2.4 still came to a nice height, but the VRX went lower i think due to the different shocks...

Blakes are a little high at the moment because they havent settled. If you want to compare some settled springs. Click on the link in my sig.

How much, if at all, do the VR-X wheel arch flares hang down below the regular lip of the arch?

Yeah it also comes down to angle of photo. Mine is a pic from the angle of the wheel. Yours is a pic from above the car.

I didn't think the arch flares brought the arch down at all, i just though they were additions to the arches to make them look wider than they really are. I will check when i get home though

Part numbers are available in King Spring's catalogue (http://www.kingsprings.com.au/Kings%20Master%20Catalogue%20041103.pdf).

Correct. The flares are to keep the car legal as without them, the tyres stick out past the arches which isn't quite legal. I know prior to a specified year it's legal to do this but all recent cars should sit behind the arches.

Looks nice Blake.

Nothing wrong with those wheels

The tyres don't even come close to the edge of the guards, they probobly drop short about 3/4 of an inch or so.

I must admit the VRX wheels are growing on me but i would like to get my hands on a set of 18's that is actually like. Prob is I can't find a set that really does it for me yet.

Hey Blake,

I have a 2002 TJ VRX magna. Its sable colour. Which is Black with a Green pearl. I bought it stocko and put a set of 18' chromies on it and got lowered king springs and i have found it too be just lowered just the right amount. It never scrubs even if i have 5 people in it. So i dont think you would have too much problems. But I must say that with the car full it looks awesome. As far as ground clearance is concerned. Im always really careful with it when it comes to drive ways. But I have found that it handles really well even with a full load.
Also now that you nave the same car as me could you please tell me weather the NP pajero exceed or the outlanders clear indicators will fit. They look the same but at close to $100 for both i dont want to buy them and have them not fit. Also i heard they will be making clear taillights for the TJ. Have you any knowledge?

finally springs in

the biggest change, apart from looks is in acceleration rather than handling. I was loosing grip most of the time in 1st gear because the weight was being shifted to the rear. now the tires bite better :)

What is wrong with standard VR-X rims? They are great.

Seems a lot of folk want to buy 2nd hand, and stick on their third gen executives, etc. :D

Well in my case of the coil overs there WAS a differnec between the V6 and the 4cyl lowerd springs...
The V6 ones needed to be around 50-75kg heavier...
When I had the lowerd coilovers in the 4cyl I could wind it all the way down and it would sit on the bump stops easy...
in the V6 these same springs even when wound all the way UP where still sitting on the bump stops...
So I paid for another set of coil overs that have a higher rating... this allowed me to raise and lower the car properly once again..
the springs are the same height.. just differnt spring preasures...
SOOOOOO
maybe Kings have the same deal... ie there is a difference between V6 and 4 cyl...
Pines see if they will swap them... for the correct ones... (if you order a 4cyl set that is)

Hi there

Im a new member and driving a TJ VR-X II. Im pretty much about to do the same lowering job as you have described. How did it go and were you happy with King Springs as a product and a match to the VR-X?? Im just hoping the superlow springs for the front dont bottom me out too much

Hmmm, someone's been gold mining again.

Just click on magna mods section (or whatever the thread will be about in general). Then click on "New Thread". From there you will have to put in a thread title, and just put your content/question in and submit it.
