While driving my battery light comes on occasionally and while the headlights are on they get brighter till it decides to stop doing whatever it is doing. im guessing its my alternator stuffing up.... anyone able to confirm that?
if so where can i get a alternator that could handle a 240v converter running off it in brisbane?

my tr 4cyl does the same thing, i have seen it before in other cars and usually replacing the alternator regulator fixes it.(where the wires other than the battery lead plug in)
yup its definately the Regulator....the small rectangular box on the back of the alternator......the regulator new costs around $80.......quiet expensive....you'd be better off sourcing a 2nd hand / reconditioned alternator and fitting it yourself.
i bought an alternator with the regulator on it 2nd hand for $45, have had it for over a year now with no problems.

My car did the exact same thing. When the light comes on pull over and put it in P, then pop ur bonnet and wiggle the wire that plugs into the alternator. If the light goes off and on again (depending on where you wiggle it, you can usually tell cuz the engine will sound different) its definatly a connection in your alternator, either worn brushes or contacts, if you know how to replace these its very cheap, otherwise you can do what i did and just get a reco alternator.

yup looks like your regulator stuffed mate, it's a common problem because the brushes has worn off. get a new one from repco, it should cost about $50, at least that's what i paid. FYI magnas have two different regulators, both are made by bosch, RE-60 and RE-72, depending what type of plug you have, the first is the smaller kind of plug, and the later is a bigger one. hope that will help.

to answer ur other question if u want a bigger amperage alternator some auto electricians will modify a standard alternator to make it bigger and still fit. There might be a heavy duty version for your motor available from bosch off the shelf. again ask an auto elec.

Yeah my alternators a heavy duty alternator (about 50% bigger than my last one). Take off your old alternator and there should be a part number, but most auto elecs will know part to car models anyway.
