just seeking advice on wether to replace with secondhand or repair. Tranny has devolped a nasty clunk both when it changes up gears and down gears. i have searched through the forums but cant find anything that is of help. Any suggestions on the cause or a fix would be greatly appreciated

Search for TPS (Throttle position sensor)

have just driven the car myself as it belongs to my dad. Have discovered that it only clunks on 1st to 2nd and vice versa asit will not go into 3rd no matter what you do O/D on or off. Cheers for the TPS advice but this was replaced about 6 months ago and from reading your previous posts i believe that this is unique to some of the others that you have replied to.

TPS check/adjustment is always a good place to start. If no joy, try to get a low km. gearbox from the wreckers. With warranty of course.

could allso be tcu. maybe it useing 2,3 not first second.

Yeah, sounds like the same problem that my TR had. Try changing the TCU (big box located behind the stereo).
