i just purchased a full set of springs and shocks for my tj.... factory lowered suspension set up.... was told this would be about 20mm..... can someone show me a pic so i can see the diff it will make when fitted.... also if i find i wanted it a bit lower how would i go bout getting the springs compressed???? also at this height when it does come time to replace shocks do they need to be anything different or will standard shocks work fine with only a 20mm lowering????? sorry for so many questions but i really am just learning alot as i go along.....

It's a little deceiving since I have wheel arch flares, but this (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58568&p=866859&viewfull=1#post866859) is what my VR-X looked like when standard. The factory sports suspension is only about 10-15mm lower than a base model Magna (compared to 30-50mm for most aftermarket options).

I wouldn't compress the springs. The lower you go, the stiffer spring rate you need to stop the springs from bottoming out - the stock suspension is quite soft. Compressing another 10-20mm is probably ok, although my preference would still be for aftermarket lowered springs.

The other thing to remember with springs and shocks is that the labour costs to install are quite high. Springs and shocks are also a consumable item - they don't last forever. In my opinion, the only second-hand suspension worth purchasing is something that isn't too far from new. The stock shocks would probably cope with a 20mm lowering - it's just a matter of how long for. Assuming they're ~10 years old, they're definitely on their way out.

It'll sit about 10mm lower then factory, which isn't actually noticable to the naked eye and handling will still be rather boaty as they are not exactly the stiffest spring (Plus most Magna's factory springs have sagged more then this over the past 10-15 years).

Take a look at a stock TJ Sports for an example.

Maat1985, Can you please clarify what you mean by 'factory lowered set up', got a before & after pic of my TJ Sports, remembering that the sports is 10mm lower than standard TJ's. Fitted king lows which dropped it another 20mm (total 30mm from standard), the after pic of my car would end up being approx 10mm lower than yours when you fit yours.

Note: even though I got 18's in the after shot, the rolling diameter of wheels is still the same.
