Hey guys,

The spoiler on my TJ Sports is faded all over, ill probably have it resprayed, i have heard that this is common with Magna's, though my bonnet and roof seem to be okay now, is there anything preventative i can do to preserve it better ?

Recommendations on type/brand of protective car wax ?

Cheers

Auto Glym Ultra Deep - Great wax - Worked a treat on my Corolla.. Just keep a constant eye on it..

same prob wit my tj sports, I did full meguiars 3 step piant rejuv all over car, wash & dry car 1st. step 1) paint cleaner(gets rid of micro specs that scratch paint), step 2) polish(brings out deeper shine & gloss), step 3) wax(seals shine in & protects piant against fade & lacquer peeling(the magnas weakness)
spoiler still abit on the dull side but did improve slightly but gives the complete car so much of a lift that you dont focus on the spoiler as much anymore:D

magnaforce, if your spoiler is still a bit sad, check out Meguiars SwirlX or even ScratchX - both are stronger products which would work better at restoring dull and oxidised paint. I've used the Meguiars paint cleaner (the one as part of the 3-stage system) and it did sweet **** all. It's possible to do an entire panel with ScratchX, but I would go over it with something more refined like SwirlX afterwards. If you want more info, Meguiars has an incredibly useful US-based discussion forum.

mayhem if your spoiler is peeling etc, the only option is a respray. If you get it resprayed, keep in mind that you can't wax it for 30-60 days. As far as off the shelf products go, I've been using Meguiars NXT2.0 Wax as my sealant lately, and I've been quite happy with the results. At the end of the day, regular application of a good brand wax will be worth your while. Just keep in mind that straight carnauba wax won't last as long as a regular synthetic wax.

Autoglym ultra deep shine is OK, but it wont last very long as a sealant.

Try Dodo Juice, their products are superb for beginners. If you look after the paint with a decent wash with a gentle shampoo that wont scrub the wax off, you can get 3 months of protection.

Hmm.. I shall steal this piece of advice..

I've applied the Auto Glym gear once every few months and she came up a treat on my old MR2.. But advice noted!

As the other guys have said, once the fade has started, and depending on its severity, it's pretty much curtains and a respray is needed.

Just on the sealing topic at hand also... These days I use Meguiars Quik Detailer, then Auto Glym deep resin polish, then Meguiars Quik Wax, then finally Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection. Once I've done that, it's simply a matter of hitting the car with the Quick Detailer once a week or once a fortnight (depending on how much time you have) and once a month or so with the Quik Wax to keep the nice shine and protection. I re-do the Extra Gloss protection every 6-12 months (depending on how much time I have)

I find this method seems to work quite well for me these days. I used to get really shit off with how long it took to wash and then chamois dry my cars, then leave them to dry for an hour before applying polishes and waxes.

The only downside is the Quik Detailer is not cheap, and microfibre cloths are not cheap either and don't last very well.

IMO those products are a bit of a rip. Most will contain silicone, which hides swirls, light scratches and other defects well. Unfortunately they also offer little protection especially in australian conditions. They are not long lasting products either. I happy to spout on about using products up on the next level of cleaning/detailing but i dont want to bore you all! Head over to the forums at detailingworld and start reading if it interests. Most, if not all products overseas from europe, US and japan are available here from small stockists.

Dave, I'm more than happy to buy a quick detailing spray, polish, wax, paint protection, leather cleaner and protectant on your recommendation. Detailing is something I don't pretend to know a lot about!

Edit: Obviously somewhere to buy the products would be good too. :)

I have used Nufinish (the bright orange bottle) and it seem to do a great job at sealing the paint. They claim one year of protection; but 6 months on it is now only losing its water beading properties, compared to 2-3 months with other brands.

Its great for people like me who have no time to keep waxing cars. Once in 6 months i can live with.
