Howdy, decided to do an oil change myself and got under the TS magna.

Is there some weird sized bolt on the sump?

I only had a jack and some stands available so I was trying to just see what sized bolt it was for now and I couldnt get a spanner onto it properly it seemed. Now either the bolt is larger than a 22mm or something weird like the sump was dented in where the bolt is, because it was damn harder than any other car Ive played with before....

Another issue is that I could see the cv driveshaft boots were split. If I buy the parts, how long does it usually take to drop the old and put the new ones in? I need my car, so cant afford to have it off the road. What do mechanics usually charge to swap the boots or the whole cv shafts out?

cheers.

For the drive shafts, just replace them, they are cheap enough as complete units

The sump bolt, is a 24mm and you need a 6 point or single hex socket, spanners will slip off and make a mess

Replace it with a 380 sump plug which gives you a convenitional 17mm hex

Sump plug size is 24mm, or 15/16. If drive shafts are noisy, i would suggest replacing the shaft, but its up to you.

Edit: Madmagna beat me to it ^.^

how hard is it to remove and replace both complete shafts?

What would a mechanic charge?

Depending on our stubborn they are they should take 25 to an hour each. I did one in the maccas carpark on saturday morning in 25 minutes.

I would think about 1hr, removal and replace each side. Bit messy if they are split. :)
So a mechanic charging $88 an hour..... plus parts. How much do mechanics charge today? Dealers are over $110p/h now?

its an easy job. with the right tools .need a 36mm socket. two 17mm a 12mm and pliers. you can allways offer a slab to a sa member willing to help.
