Hey guys,
I have been thinking of fitting an electric antenna in my TF Magna, at the moment it just has the manual one. What would be the best way of wiring it up? I was thinking just wiring it up to accessories/ignition but that would probably mean I would have to run wires from the rear to the front of the car.
Does anyone know what the easiest way of fitting it is? It would be good if there was already a plug in the back of the car for it.
Thanks.
You will probably have to run at the very least a power wire and a trigger wire back from the head unit. I had a quick look around in the boot of my TE and couldn't find any wiring for the electric antenna.

Yeah I think you're right, and I will probably need an earth wire as well. Is it easy to pull the headunit out? It still has the stock one.

It's not hard to get the old one out. There's a sticky covering it in the DIY section. You could probably pull 12v from somewhere inside the boot to make the cable runs easier.

Thanks mate, I just had a look in the DIY section and found the how to install the electric antenna. I think the hardest part will be finding the trigger wire. I'll see if I can get an antenna from the wreckers and I might give it a go this weekend if I have time. I also noticed that my boot light has been disconnected because it stays on, but it looks like the switch is part of the boot lock, do you know if that correct or is there another switch?

Most of the antenna's at the wreckers have been snapped off or taken. The trigger wire is blue/white from memory in my TJ, hidden in the stereo wiring plug. You may not have this wire if you don't have an electric antenna from the factory. I would tend to agree with you that the switch is included with the boot lock.

Yeah that's true, most of the antennas at the wreckers would be broken. I don't think mine came out with an electric antenna from the factory, it just an executive. But to be honest, I don't really know much about Mitsubishi Magnas. I have always worked on Commodores so for a change, i decided to get a Magna.

The switch is definately in the boot lock. There is one wire for the switch. I recently put an electric opener in an Exec, which isn't too hard to do.
I'm also going to install an auto aerial soon. The drilling part scares me though. I don't wanna stuff it up!

I wired in a full/half mast antenna in my TH, was very simple to do. You'll need a copy of the workshop manual to identify the correct wires.
Essentially mine was, at some point, wired as follows.
3x wires going to the antenna:
1 for half mast
1 for full mast
1 for constant power (so the antenna can drop once neither half or full mast wires have 12v)
and then grounded to the chassis.
When I wired it in with my 2 original headunits (current one doesn't support it), I had the 12v antenna wire (+12v when the headunit is in "radio" mode) from the headunit to a 3 way switch (1, off, 2) in the centre console. When flicked to mode 1, the half mast wire got 12v, when flicked to mode 2 the full mast wire got 12v instead. When switched to off, neither got power so the antenna drops down (still has power from the constant power wire.
I don't know if there's a source of 12v in the boot that is accessory only, I don't think there would be one where a trailer loom connects.

Thanks for that! I only found the full mast and constant +12v wires, but i have a half mast switch. The wiring somehow looked aftermarket, in a stock Elite! Do you have a red and a green wire, green being full mast? I might have to play around with the control box to find out how half mast buggered off.
Don't worry too much though. If wiring was easy, i would be very bored and have no hobby.
I really like your 3 way switch idea. Something we all want XD
Edit: Sorry for being so pedantic, but you never mentioned earth. If you ever unmounted the aerial, it won't work since its not touching the body and has no fourth wire for earth.

Nothing running on ACC in the boot sadly (speakers aside of course). Howd you go about wiring up a half mast? Time delay relay? And when do you use it?
As for the lock, Im quite sure its a case of the catch not wrapping all the way around the strike, so it isnt deactivating the switch. Try adjusting the lock up a bit and look in the ski port.
