Just wondering where people are mounting/placing their Iphones when using the cable?
I currently have mine running into the glove box but am thinking of changing it to just underneath the stereo.
Does anybody have it mounted up higher some how? Any pics if so?

Yeah, just installed my adapter as well, I trawled through e-bay and found a couple of i-pod/i-phone cradles/mounts. If you look around the various shops on e-bay you will see maybe 10-12 different cradles/mounts for the i-pod. I purchased a couple of the physically smallest I could find, cost me about $10 for the 2 different cradles. I plan to install it maybe just to the right of the head unit or in front of the display. J B Hi Fi have a really small mount/cradle for the i-Pod but it will only fit the gen 4 i-pod.They usually mount using suction or tape.
The USB & Ipod cables from my head unit run to my arm rest box, which is where I put my USB flash drive, or if I had an iPod, it would go there.
My phone doubles as my GPS and I actually stick it to the dash using a special sticky rubber pad - cost about $2 posted from HK (ebay) and it's a bit like those toys you could throw at the wall / window and they would slowly roll down. Or more recently a remote control car that you can drive on walls.
It holds my phone quite well and it's far more convenient and cleaner than attaching some plastic holder (IMO).

I guess I would like to mount it where I can see it/use it for GPS and also be able to power it and use it via the cable for music. That's the dream anyhow.
Oggy, when you mount it to the dash is it powered via the cable or running on battery?
Thoughts? Mounting iphone etc using cd player

I bought my mount from http://www.holdmyphone.com.au/
They have a couple of different 380 mounts, then you match it up with a holder for your phone.
I bought the 380 centre mount (SKU 653894) and a thru-connect adjustable holder (SKU 516165).
The iPod/iPhone dock cable from my stereo connects in to the bottom of the holder and the phone slips in the top.
It's not the cheapest solution but it works very well, and you don't need to drill any holes for mounting screws. Best part is if you change car or phone you can replace just that section and refit it.
If you never use your CD player - which given you've bought an iPod cable it'd be a safe bet to assume this - then that would be a cheaper way of doing it. The main disadvantage of that system though is you still need to plug the dock cable in after putting the phone in the mount.
Depends how much effort and $$$ you want to spend I suppose.
You can see a pic of the mount in my car at http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51489&p=1415528&viewfull=1#post1415528

Thanks guys, I like the Hold My Phone stuff, having it ready to be plugged in is something I am looking for, just need to decide on which mounting style to use.
here's one just like what I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&item=170704342132
and pic borrowed from the same ebay listing:

Unfortunately on my TJ dash, there aren't a lot of places to stick it and still see the screen.
Most useful spot for me is high on the dash, just left of the steering wheel, covering a small portion of the climate control knob and air vent.
My USB cable from the centre console then has an extension cable to the phone so it can be on charge at same time, but normally I don't bother as battery lasts a couple of days normally.
Cheers.

Have my ipod nano stuck to the dash to the right of the air conditioning controls with 2 velcro dots and use a mountek holder as referred to earlier for my android phone fitted above the bluetooth buttons to the right of the steering wheel.
Will post pics later.
Cheers

That sticky stuff looks amazing, does it really work that well? I'd be scared to attach a phone to it maybe?
Yeah, it works quite well.
My phone is a HTC HD2 - similar size to iPhone.
In my case, with the pad on a flat surface and the phone touching it quite evenly, even hard cornering doesn't make it budge.
If the pad has a convex curve to it (humped), the phone can "roll" off if it sits over the hump. So that means a few spots don't work, like the bottom of the A-pillar, hanging from the ash tray or the left hand side of the centre console.
I haven't tried flat against the window yet, although next I'm going to try it on top of the dash in landscape mode, wedged to the windscreen. :)

For you guys with the Holdmyphone holders, can you post pics of your incar setup from the drivers perspective? Just trying to choose which holder to get, thanks.

Thanks 380!
Minotaur, does the air vent mount wiggle or move much if you're using the phone?

The air vent doesn't move at all unless I want it to.

I have finally ordered my grear, I got the center mount with the pass through holder. One of the items is on back order, so hopefully will get it next week.
Guys... Before ordering from Holdmyphone..... look here at Mountonus (http://www.mountonus.com/Brodit-Car-Drive-18-98-1099/Mitsubishi-380-2007-RHD-ProClips.aspx) Much cheaper... even when shipping from the UK.

Wow, I was looking prior to purchasing but could not find anything. These are the same things, same product codes even.
It looks like there is a saving of about $35 by getting it from the UK.

Cool - I found the Aussie place after rolling my eyes at the price Brodit were charging for shipping from the USA...
Make sure you get the one that has the adjustable sides on it to allow for skins/cases, even if you don't currently use a skin. Not sure if the iPhone 4S is a different size (or even the 5 when it comes out) so getting adjustable will future-proof you to an extent.

Ok, I cancelled my order and have now ordered a complete set for the 380 and the Falcon from the UK, saved even more and both cars will be setup now!

Got my mounting stuff from the UK. I didn't realise I would have to screw the holder to the mount, is that right? I would have thought each holder would have the same bracket and therefore the correct holes could be part of each mount.

Yep that's right - you should have 2 bits - the bit that attaches to the car and the bit that attaches to the phone. the plate where they screw together is universal ie. if you changed cars and bought a new car bracket, you could screw the phone mount to it using the existing holes and vice versa.

Thanks, that's what confused me. I figured the fitting was universal so couldn't see why the holes would not already be in the mount.
Otherwise its very well made stuff.

Got my Mountonus yesterday
Bit of fiddling to connect the charge unit but opted to tap into the feedwires for the bluetooth and double side tape it to that mounting panel
Not happy about glueing it to vent - upper glue to MFD panel and lower glue to radio front panel, so removed glue strips and just left it sprung in place to both. No problems so far :)

Yes, it doesn't really need those sticky strips, I wasn't really expecting them either, as there is enough tension without them. Also, when you take off the stereo fascia it will come undone. I drilled the holes to screw on the holder.

Drilled to hold the two parts together? - I did that, or do you mean screwed the holder in place on dashboard?

So I need to solve the puzzle of how to get an Iphone 4S mounted in 380, and be charged and connected to a Pionner H/Unit. In a Case....
I might wait til the Iphone rocks up and see if connects to the pioneer with the apple cable, or if needs the OEM pioneer cable....Stooooopid Apple.....Stooopid Pioneer...

Read further back in this thread - there's thru-connect iPhone mounts that work with the iPhone in a case as well - I am using one myself.

Yes, the holder for Iphones in cases works well.
Some stereos require you to use their special Iphone/Ipod interface cable, much like the 380 6-stacker does. It depends on whether they "control" the unit, or it plays the music and is amplified via the head unit only.

The good thing about the thru-connect mount is that no matter what "custom" iPod cable a stereo comes with, the iPod end is going to be the standard dock connector, so it just plugs straight in to the bottom of the thru-connect mount.

Oh, cool, I think I get it, the connection on the through connect is just an extension (more or less), so the properties of my cable are retained.
Thank you fellas.

Exactly. You plug your existing cable in to the bottom of the thru-connect mount, and the mount passes that through to the connector your iPhone clicks in to.
The thru-connect mount doesn't come with a cable itself for this reason - you'll be using your own.

I got the mount with the wired in power supply. It came with a (non genuine Griffin) standard cable as the power supply output is a USB plug. The mount has been machined/shaped in a way that holds the release buttons depressed and the plug retained in holder with plate and two screws, so phone slips in and out with no problem and no need to press release buttons.
