Hey guys my autobox today started acting weird driving along and thumping into second after hesitation. Just has the transmission service and was told it was quite dirty seemed fine afterward but thumps into fourth when letting off the throttle at 60 kph. Then went to lunch and just tried back and fourth in the car park put in reverse didn't go straight in but thumped into gear after few seconds after giving it a little throttle. Is my gearbox on the way out any thoughts would be appreciated.

Seems to surge back and fourth in reverse till it goes into gear and is making an awful noise from the front when in gear.

Ok. Please stop driving the car and using the gears.

Check the oil immediately. It should be red/pink in colour. If it is not, ring the guy who flushed it and tell him he's used the wrong oil and he needs to put your car on a tow truck, take it to his workshop and do it properly with the right oil.

Yes... The Magnas are fussy and can only work well with the Genuine ATF

Have you tried retraining the gearbox? if they had removed the battery for some reason, you have to reset or else it will keep behaving badly until you do so.

Rang the bloke reckons used the right oil its an racv place he seemed convinced he used the rite oil don't know?
Don't think it has been changed for a while though as they said it was really dirty though a week later starts acting up doesn't sound rite

You need to go and check the oil.

The dipstick is under the front of the snorkel, just to the left of the airbox. Pull the dipstick out and check the colour of the oil.

Ask the guy who serviced it what oil he used, and dont tell him the type mentioned above before he tells you!

My mechanic refused to change to oil in my trans as it was already mildly flaring and he said it could potentially be a disaster if it was changed. The fresh oil is probably exposing a problem you never knew you had.. Like a wave spring or something.

Wave spring will not cause thumping

If you want to drop by here I can have a look, I would think that the issue may be it is in limp mode, may not even be a trans issue, I have a couple things to check and should be able to give you a better idea but would need to see the car

Thanks for the feedback guys drove it home tonite and seemed ok. Gonna take it back to place where had the service done get them to look before any major decisions.

Thanks MadMagna but live in Warrnambool so a little out of the way.

What you mean but limp mode? Also when in third at sixty thumps into fourth after letting off throttle been doing this before and after tranny service
