Ok well my TJ solara has just clocked over the 210,000 k mark, never had any problems with engine and still running pretty smooth. I wanna work on the interior and exterior abit, New Front bar, respray due to paint peeling and custom boot install etc. I spoke with my uncle yesterday he said there is no use spending money on the car cause your gonna start having problems with the gear box etc. So now im tossing up to cleaning up alittle and selling it or keeping it and fixing it up. Anyone else been in this situation any sort of advice would be great
i have been down this road with my TF magna, 203 000ks on the clock, the auto has been going crazy for the last couple of years, and thought about just selling the car as a recon auto here where i am is 5k. but after realising a manual conversion is way cheaper, ive gone that way. i dont spend a lot of money on the car, and not going to, just enough to keep it neat and tidy.
I bought a vrx with 100k on the clock to replace my vrx with 200k on the clock because it made more sense to work on a fresher car.

What Sir Uncle and Woob said is good . . . .
At the 210,000 km mark I'd be more concerned with keeping the car mechanically up to scratch, rather than tarting it up.
I'm sure if you check drive shafts, tyres, brakes, suspension etc there is plenty to spend your money on. Has the cam belt and other bits been done? If not, that might be the best place to start.
Make a commitment to keep the car for another 100,000 km before you spend money on paint etc.

Jacko wheels on parramatta rd, with a Ralliart sporting a VRX wing. Good luck with that.

I personally have had mine for 4 years and counting, love her to much and we have had way to many adventures to justify selling her. Although just clocked over to 200,000. Auto has been playing up for the last 30,000 ks. Spirited driving on the weekends and she is still going! Manual, and 380 conversion soon so we can continue our adventures!
Love that car <3 :mits:

You could pick up some real good TJ's and TL's for less than $10k and in awesome low km's. I guess its all about the Km's. I chose only 6 months ago to get a TJ S2 VR-X with a mere 92,000 on the clock, and the car was immaculate. It needed the routine service and some brake lines changed, but she'd be good for another 150,000 Km's. So now i can spend cash on upgrades rather than mechanical fixes etc.
Consider this, if the car is worth $4k, and one with $100,000 less Km's is worth $8k, why not get the newer model instead. You could easily spend $4k doing things like driveshafts and a trans recon in 1 foul swoop. Sure most of these guys always say "go a manual conversion" but to some this is not an option, nor is a 2nd hand box that most guys who went a manual conversion just happen to have one lying around thats suddenly gone from slipping to mint condition etc. I'd be wary, given in most cases the auto box comes out for a reason and the conversions are always cheaper than an auto rebuild. Just saying thats all. Its not worth it getting a 2nd hand trans unless you spend the least you can, get a shop to do it with a 3 month warranty and flog it off asap.
Long story short, upgrade mate, or check out a couple of the guys cars here for sale with heaps of mods and well looked after for a great deal.
