Hi All,

I took my tr 2.6 for a 30 min drive then 2hours later drove home the water levels were fine and the temp was normal.
The thing is i drove it to the gold coast an hour and a half was there to pick up ks lights that took 5 min then drove home i didnt check the water, temp was normal.
THe other day I drove to work which is 5 min up the road and 4 hours later i checked the water and the reservoir tank is full nearly to the lid.
I have changed the radiator cap and the hoses. I drive it local there is no problem but when i drive for about an hour the reservoir tank dont drain but to the radiator and the temp says just over half way which it seems to be normal.

Can anyone help me with this problem

Common problem. As the water heats up it expands and flows into the tank. When the engine cools is should suck the water back into the radiator. One of the seals in the radiator cap isn't sealing, there is a big one around the outside and a smaller one in the middle. If the radiator level drops and the tank level rises, then it's not sucking back in as the water cools. It's the middle one you need to clean. Or try another radiator cap.

when topping up the radiator should the car be running or is it best to top up when the car is cold

Top it up cold, engine off, let it gurgle a bit and fill up more. (only does this if the level is really low, like on a coolant change.) Run the engine with the cap on, then let it cool and check the level in the radiator again. There will still be air in the system but if you keep an eye on the reservoir over a few days of running around - the level will drop as the air gets pushed out the radiator overflow.
