Is there any need to modify the exhaust on the Magna sports (2001 gen 3) or is it already up to par? I heard, just the Muffler should be replaced, is this true?| which one should I get I dont really want to change the exhaust tone much or increase the noise. But I would like any preformance gains I could get from it

You'll find the sports muffler isn't a bad piece of hardware. If you don't want to change the tone or get anything droney and loud then stick with it.
The best thing to upgrade in the magna's exhuast if your have a sports or VRX is its headers. Either RPW's or Pacemaker extractors would work nicely.

Sports exhaust is very nice performance wise
but
have only 3 issues :
1) Have more noise inside the car then out side
2) no chrome tip
3) drones between 2000 - 3000 rpm when you are crusing around in 5 gear on higways @ 90 - 110 km/h.

Aussiemagna,
Im thinking of doing mods to my AWD sports TJ...read your reply about extractors and wonder what gains will this give me...without doing any chip or air flow changes, will headers or extractors also void the warranty?
cheers

Im going to be organising a pacemaker group buy next month so whoever wants to get in on that can. They will be around 410 a set (they are marked up by $20 to keep the website online) so if you order a set through the group buy you'll be supporting the club and getting a nice set of extractors cheap
Extractors will give gains no matter what but best to do your induction first, ie replace your stock paper filter with a K&N Panel or Pod filter.
Im 99% certain extractors will void your warranty. Be careful with that one. If your going to get RPW extractors get RPW to fit them, if your going to get pacemaker, RPW can fit them but so can every other exhuast shop. Speak to Dave from RPW and im sure he will help you out.
But those who want pacemakers, might as well wait till next month and get in on the group buy.
what's the difference between pacemakers and extractors?

Pacemaker is a brand that make extractors.
Im 99% certain extractors will void your warranty. Warranty can only be voided if it can be proved the aftermarket piece of equipment was to be at fault.

So this means you can install an after market ECU or install a turbo and it wont void your warranty???
So this means you can install an after market ECU or install a turbo and it wont void your warranty???
No because an aftermarket ecu overides the ECU settings. Those settings are used for a purpose to keep the car running at the desired results set by Mitsubishi.
A turbo would void your warranty straight away as youre working the internals alot harder than the desired by Mitsu..
Its all about common sense.

A turbo wouldn't void your warranty if your door drops off, but if your motor or transmission dies then you can forget about asking your local dealer to replace it lol
what's the diference between extractors and headers then
what's the diference between extractors and headers thenTwo different words.. Both exactly the same meaning.
Headers is the term used by Americans
Extractors is the term used by Australians.. Well.. used to...

Umm... it will do both. An increase it torque across the rev range will mean an increase in power as power is derived from work (torque) over time. Extractors are typically more effective at top end but depends on what they've been tuned for.
