Hi all,
Have just spent a good hour reading about Canbus. I've wrapped my head around what it is (I think) and understand what it does.
The question I have is how hard it would be / if it is possible - to make an adapter kind of thing (you can see I thought this out) in the 380 to connect an aftermarket stereo to the MFD.
Obviously the H/U would need to support it, but surely there would be a stereo out there that does? Pretty much any SatNav kind of headunit in a newer car should have some way to communicate basic information (volume, track, input, etc) with a secondary screen.
Am I crazy, or could it be done? If it can't be done, why not?

Hi all.
Did a bit more reading about canbus again. Have found a number of 'universal' adapters but I don't think any of them will be suitable. None of them are for connecting the OEM headunit to a screen to display track/volume/station/etc. They all have other purposes. At this stage it seems that a canbus module for a 380/Galant has not been made yet.
However.
When has that stopped Magna/380 owners before? (380s didn't have coilovers until Foorz got a set custom made for example.) I think that given the interest around a product like this it may be time to look at getting a canbus interface module made. By who you ask - I have no idea. That's where you guys all come in. Anyone know a place that would have the knowledge to make this kind of product?
I've already sent an email to SZcanbus (linked by the_ash) asking about it, but I have a feeling they are an oversees company..
If you were keen you could attempt using an MMCS system from a CJ Lancer (involves DVD+Satnav ability and some other cool shit). All CJ lancers are CANBUS.

We may not need to worry. I just found this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mitsubishi-Galant-Eclipse-MP3-CD-Radio-Ipod-SAT-AUX-/150630529501?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item23124779dd
Anyone have any ideas on how that may have been done? and if it would work on one of ours? I've already sent the guy an email with a few questions about details, installation, prices, etc.
If people are keen I'll let you know how it goes?

Looks good, other than the nasty looking scratch to the left of the seek/track button. As they say, maybe it will buff out?

The A/C controls have been swapped around too unfortunately. Which sucks, as those dials look heaps better than the ones we have here!

Yeah I love those dials as well. I'm more keen on the idea of AUX integration as opposed to the headunit itself :p

That's just a Galant radio and facia with a 3.5mm soldered on. It will work but do you really want to spend 245 bucks to get what you already have with just a $3 cable added?

No, I don't want to spend $245. I already said that. I want to find out WHERE he soldered in the AUX so I can attempt it myself.
He also replied to the email and basically said I can either buy the complete radio or send in mine to be modded, he doesn't want to share the secret. Bugger.

Oh right, it wasnt very clear that you werent buying the radio. Since it's plug+play I thought you might just buy it and put it in for ease.
I'm going to go and remove my radio and open it up to see what I can see. I figure you'd solder it in as far back as the radio goes before it outputs to the speakers, so you still have volume control and the equaliser.

No schematics for the audio processor is fail. I don't quite have the patience to set up a bench with a power supply and speakers or the steady hands to find out where I would wire the audio channels... those connections are tiny!
Finding a cheap 13pin CD stacker from a Verada, Pajero, Lancer or any 2000ish Mitsu might work better with the CD2 function.

I was going to start a separate thread but this thread is fairly close to my topic and active so I'll hijack it instead.
Has anyone tried adding an aux in (3.5mm) to a stock TL head unit, or have datasheets or pinouts for the amplifier chip in the head unit? I'm willing to have a go myself, but it would be cool if someone had experience before I go pulling apart my dash and breaking every single clip in the car only to find I can't even open the head unit or it's just not feasible.
