View Full Version : inline oil filter question
Hi All,
Where is the best place to fit an inline transmission oil filter. Note that I've got an auxiliary transmission cooler fitted.
Cheers,
Vlad

I put mine on top of the transmission, using a right angle filter bracket that takes a spin on oil filter. It's the perfect location, close to the oil lines that feed the radiator, and there's heaps of room under the intake.
It is an easy DIY? What in terms of tools etc is required? Also, what brand was the filter and is it easy to clean?
Cheers,
Vlad

It's not too hard to do on your own; a couple of hours at most. The hardest part is identifying the supply and return lines from the radiator - other than that it's quite straightforward. Tool wise, I think all I needed was a couple of spanners and a screwdriver. Since the kit I used was American made, it came with an enormous Fram brand filter, which seems to be almost impossible to get in Aus. Funnily enough, the engine oil filter from an Astron 2 is a perfect fit.

What was the reason for using an inline filter and what benefits have you found from this ?
