Hey guys im after some advice.

I need to replace my master cylinder, this i can do myself no worries, i can also bleed the brakes at the 4 wheels no worries. (I use the good ole Tube submerged in brake fluid trick).

Now im led to believe that i need to bleed the master cylinder, if anyone could shed any advice on how to do this, it would be great thanks.

It's called "bench bleeding" - you basically clamp the new MC in the vyce, fill with fluid and pump it till the fluid coming out is clear...this results in less bleeding and best of all can prevent air entering the ABS unit which then requires more specialised attention to bleed. But for the best explanation just Google "bench bleeding"....there are some very good examples on the web/YouTube.

Bolt the master cylinder in, attach/lightly tighten brake lines then fill master cyl with brake fluid. Get a second person to push the pedal down & hold it down. Whilst the pedal is being held down loosen off the brake pipes at the master cyl & re tighten. Let the brake pedal up & repeat the procedure till the air is removed from the internals of the master cylinder. Once that is achieved you then need to bleed the system at each caliper in order to remove the remaining air trapped in the system.

Note: If the car has ABS leave the engine idling so the ABS pump is operating.
Try & use a different colour brake fluid so you can see the colour change when the new fluid comes through at the bleed nipples.

Hako is Bench Bleeding completely necessary? Because what Magna Diver has explained was the way i thought it would need to be done.
