View Full Version : Replace Immobilizer?

Has anyone replaced/renewed the Immob?
Misbehaving Immob is typical in these TE models (-96). The fault in mine has been there for years, but I always managed to start with max 1/2 doz attempts. Now it's much worse.
Is it as easy as just swapping it - provided it's for that model ECU?
Cost?
Anything else?
Cheers.

Probably easier to get your ECU reprogrammed to ignore the immobiliser, or to see if the wiring is the problem.

Reckon?
How?
Where?
Yee, I will need to look at it closer, haven't had a chance as yet. Hopefully bad (corroded) connection, ECU Reset (battery off for 20 sec), re-prog keys or something similar... Wishful thinking!

i found it is usually the plug that connects to the ignition barrel, check that first

TE ECUs appear not to be reflashable.

The immob is an easy fix, take off the cover of the immob, towards the back there will be a square crystal timer, the soler joints come loose and need to be resoldered
I have fixed several this way over the years

Took out and soldered several connections on the board. Well, not me, but my elder Bro who is better with fiddly stuff. He reckons one of the connections looked like it had a small crack.
Will assemble all tomorrow and then monitor over time if it helped. Cos after all, the fault is intermittent.
Was bit annoying to remove the Immob, that stupid clippi thing to gear lever frame ans so forth. But know better now.

All packed in.
Immob seems to work ok now, turned Ign on for some 1/2 doz times and no Engine Symbol appearing. Had to even start and move the car once cos the obligatory runaway screw was somewhere under the car not to be seen otherwise. Time will tell if this soldering fixed the issue 100%.
Tnx again for advise.
Sounds like Bud time to me?

Been few weeks now and problem has been less frequent, but still existing. Guess can handle it, depending.
Sourced a price from Mitsu for a new Immob, 180 $. So not too bad for a possible easy fix.
The connectors and wiring at Ign Key are also all good.
