Hi guys...
Had an interesting experience yesterday that i'd like to get some views on:

My TJ was up for its standard 6month servicing (65k on the clock, so not a major service)
so i dropped the car off at 8am and was told that it would be ready by 10:30.
Before I left I asked them to have a special look at the exhaust cuz it was making a soft "blup-blup-blup" at idle for the last week, which was previously unheard.

So anyways, went back home and fell asleep. Got a call from the servicing ppl saying that:
We have detected a clogged fuel injector. It will be $97 to fully clean
I'm like fine.. go ahead with it...What time will the car be ready?
They go it will will be ready at the same time.

So i catch a cab back there at 12pm to see my car sitting in exactly the same place as in the morning. I go inside and ask for the bill and the guys like - "hang on... amm the car hasn't been started yet"

This all happened at a very reputable dealership in Sydney.. One of the biggest in fact..
So before i jump to any conclusions:

1. How did they know that the fuel injector was clogged if they apparently hadn't started the servicing or moved the car?

2. Does it actually cost anywhere near $97 to clean fuel injectors? (i'm thnkn a bottle of Wynn's would do the trick)

3. I have noticed the different exhaust sound, a slightly different revving sound (more grainy) and a slightly sluggish response... does clogged injectors account for all this??

Any thoughts?

<sorry for long post!>

cheers,
krish

It could do. I'm not sure what they're erally worth though. Thing is, the only injector clean that's worth it is physically removing the injectors and bathing them in an ultra sonic bath, (I think that's what they do with them). Using additives in your fuel isn't smart. It might remedy the the problem for a tank but it will come back.

full fuel system clean costs about 180, so i imagine just the injectors would be able that much. i imagine they flow test them while they are there, ask for a value or two

$97 for an injector clean through dealer servicing sounds about right, and I would assume they would clean it ultrasonically and not just putting addictives into the fuel tank.

if u want to use a fuel system cleaner in a bottle then try the genuine Subaru stuff a lot of people in the trade have told me it's the best on the market.
