Okay so been searching though the years of threads and people seem to have different opinions as the years go on. .
So what i want to know. .
Pacemakers or HMs?
Going on a KF verada soon to be with 6G75, manual, tune etc
The HMs seem to be a direct bolt on and the pacemakers require welding etc The HMs "move" the power to low end where as im not sure what the curves on the Pacemakers are. Read different reports on the pacemakers cracking but were these installed with the flex pipe?
Reading so many different views and opinions so please guys! Help me out here, what do i go for?
Cheers!

Issue with the Pacemaker, aside from missing hte rear part of the pipe is that there is no flex pipe between the banks, this is what caused them to crack.
HM and others have a flex pile between the banks as do the OEM set up.
Jamie, I have HM headers on mine if you want a close up look. I'll be at the next meet as usual.

Il have to have a look bill :)
Cheers mal
Can anyone tell me what the torque curves are for the different brands? In other words where the power is "moved" to, what range? etc

You can't put figures on it, The HM will move your power up compared to stock, it's what an extractor does, free flowing = maximum air velocity hence higher gains. However the pacemaker will make it a little higher again. You won't regret getting HM if you do, even if it is only a little difference, high end power is lame, you don't get to feel it very often.
If you wan't high end power, put cams in your engine.

lol I dont want high end power, but i dont want low end either! Reason being is the 6G75 with manual and tune seems like its going to have more then enough low end torgue as it is. You can put a figure on it, extractors are tuned differently, and thats the question im asking?

Pacemaker, might gain you 3kw @ 5600rpm and torque will be 7nm Higher from 4500-6000
HM, May have 3kw extra @4000rpm and torque might be 10nm Higher at 3500-4500rpm.
These are probably the types of figures I would guess could happen. Not really something i would worry about.

I'd suggest you enjoy your conversion once it's done and go from there.
Only reason i'd be putting extractors on was if you're going big cams etc. or if you like the 'sound' they provide.
Having said that, i can get Pacemakers at cost price atm...still to decide which way i want to go myself.

I do like the sound they provide, but apart from that my pipes are split and have been welded a few times already so its time for an upgrade lol
I'd go with HM just to keep the heat shields and with flex in the middle they sound stronger and more reliable.

HM seems to be the go :) Especially with a 10 year warranty

10 year warranty? wtf nice!
Just for reference for everyone, from the HM Headers web site

"10 Year Warranty - 3.5 litre FWD - This header is designed for the front wheel drive model and delivers good all round power and throttle response. Comes with connecting pipe and gaskets to suit the connecting pipe, to header flange. Will bolt up to the existing catalytic converter, and exhaust system."
When I installed mine on the KL I had to shorten about 30mm in length to make them fit....I noticed that on my wife's KF they would have bolted straight up without modification. There were some some subtle changes between exhausts in some models.

I think this is a great idea. Putting quality into a car is the most important when it comes to modification. Makes me feel great Mitsubishi used these from factory on my car.

Pacemakers only offer a 2 year warranty AFAIK so HM must be really good quality to stand behind their product to that extent!

Especially with exhaust piping, holes are very common is regular piping and extractors are subject to even greater extremes of heat so quality is very important. Just keep your reciept.

If you want Jaime, you can come past my place today to check out my Pacemakers, and how they hang out a fair bit more than the standards...

If you call hm direct, you can get them cheaper, around 350 from memory

Cost price is double that, there is no way a regular off the street person will get even trade from HM let alone less than cost from them
They did about 18 months ago have some surplus stock they farmed out very cheaply but certainly no longer

This is because on the L and W series they used a longer cat can the car was mounted closer to the motor.
In short the centre section on the TL and TW is the same length as the TE and TW. The H and J series use a centre section 120mm shorter as the H and J also had longer cats than the E and F however were still mounted further back. A common exhaust replacement I do for people with E and F series is use a L series centre and rear muffler on the E and F series of cars, larger pipe and newer thus will last many more years
For anyone interested I am a HM dealer, I can tell you what will fit what and what needs to be done if your ideas are not a direct fit
