Hi everyone,

I am new to this particular forum and am seeking some advice regarding upgrading my audio system. I have a TE Magna and as most of you know the OE system is pretty woeful. I am not looking for a system that is powerful enough to be heard from a neighbouring suburb. So huge speakers and additional amps are out of the question. What I want is a userfreindly system without all the flashing lights and associatted gimmicks and decent speakers that want distort when I want extra volume but can still handle a wide frequency range.
I am undecided on whether I want or need a stacker as some systems handle MP3. A lot of stuff I have looked at do not do anything for me from a design perspective. I find tiny buttons and excessive use of lights and colours a real turn off. If I could find a decent quality system that sounds great and is as easy to operate as the OE system, I would be happy.
My budget is around 700 bucks, certainly no more .
Thanks in advance

Nigel

mate, go to your local dodgy deals sound place (for me its Newcastle Pro Sound) and check out their range... i'd go with Kenwood or Pioneer, but thats just me... definately get MP3... its well worth it!! i have the Kenwood KDC-MP4026 (about $300 i cost me) head unit with some Jaycar 6x9s and front 6s and it sounds good! i don't blast my ears out with them though and they handle it very easily with much improved sound quality over the OEM!!

you can pick up a cheap JVC deck with MP3 for $300-ish. I'd also look at Alpine decks, simply because they generally have larger on board amplifiers, but are more expensive.

Then grab some JL Audio TR 6.5"s (about $150) and JL Audio 6x9"s (about $230). Or try some eclipse speakers instead. Both are good for entry level speakers.

My best advice to you is to go down to 3 or 4 different car audio shops, tell them you have $700 and you want an MP3 deck, a pair of 6.5"s and some 6x9"s for bass. They will do what they can to sell you a good deal. Also, avoid kenwood/sony/pioneer for speakers. There are better made speakers for the same price.

You may even be able to pick up a pair of splits for your money. Check out momentum splits from Cadence. $180 with a high power output.

Cheers,
Cam.
