Hi everyone, as you can tell by the amount of posts Im making I am excited to once again own a Magna. I was wondering if anyone has modded the footwell to light up when the door opens instead of the cabin light. Pics would be great. Thanks

Yes,
Verada models have footwell lights.
Some of the other models have the wiring connection part of the main loom each side. E.g. my AWD Sports TJII does.
The holes are already there in the plastic trim.
All you need to do is buy the pair of lights from Mal at MITSFIX and pop them in.
You could then set the interior light to off so only the footwell lights come on.
Also the Verada has rear courtesy / Map reading lights.
Again my car had the main wiring in place so all I had to do was to make cutouts on the C pillar covers and plug the lights in. They come on when a door is opened.
I also got my hands on the Verada front interior /map reading light assembly. A bit more difficult as one has to position the new bracket in the correct place and make a cutout in the headlining.
Brilliant when stumbling into the car at 04:30 to take son to swimming!!

I also did this in my old volvo.
If you don't want the standard light, as it is a very small globe and want to use an LED strip, run the wires from the switch in the door that is used to turn on the interior lights. Usually you just need to ground the wire to the screw that holds it in and connect the wire to corresponding power wire.
I haven't done it in the magna before, but if you had a multimeter handy this shouldn't be a problem!

Remember though.. When installing LEDs you may require resistors to get rid of any transient voltages.
Ive realised when installing an LED into my Drivers side door light it would flicker.. A resistor strapped on the back and shes working a treat!

i just grabbed some white neons from autobarn for 10.00 each and wired them up
not traditional but looks bloody great at night with the doors open

RE: footwell light covers and light holders, these are exactly the same as in the 2nd gens, ALL 2nd gens have both covers (you need left and right, they are different shapes/sizes), but only some have the light holders, and often only in the driver's side. Just trawl through a few at a wreckers and you should pick up all the parts you need for $5.

I know how you feel! My magna had a little light in the middle of the roof!
The Verada I have now, has lights in footwells front & rear, lights in the pillars, little spot lamps at the front near the visors and lights under the door pockets to shine onto the ground when the door is opened.
Much nicer. Parts are easy to get and install. Search for a Verada at a local wreckers.

I'm jelly! I want my car to light up!
ok, i just recently done this to my TF exec, i went to the wreckers and got myself some foot well light covers from a second gen which will clip straight on to your 3rd gen, get some T10 bulb holders from the rear parcel brake light from VR commodors and up, they are a smaller twist type bulb holder make sure you cut a good length of wire with it and they will twist straight in to your 3rd gen setup, solder on some wire, add your fav bulb and you have lights. now the interesting part of this, while i was at the wreckers, i noticed most 2nd gen magnas have the nice large push button cabin light with map lights built in, and also have the map lights at the front, with some small minor modifications, mostly careful cutting in the roof lining you can get these to fit in nicely. the cabin light wire connector is a direct plug in, the front cabin light will have to be spliced in, and soldered. will post pics later today, maybe tomorrow if you like

LOL maggie3.5 LOVES led's! You should see what he's done with his 380!
I beleive you should be right to tap into the courtesy lights. Just be aware that you may need to put a resistor in the line for the LED as they run on alot less voltage, so may even work when the door is closed as a small amount of current maybe running through the circut.

Bit more complicated than that....sure ,all the power is tapped straight off the door lights curciut,
However, the speaker is a 30-40 cm led strip ,stuck on the speaker, and the door handles use a 4mm pilot led that has been drilled into the very tip of the inner door surround..yeah,it does look awesome ....
....let not forget also that i have a RED led strip running under the length of the rear seat,
RED strips in the footwells at the front,
At the top of the front and rear windscreen i have a RED led strip that runs the length of them too ...
Did i also mention ,as seen in the photos ,is Verada lights in the c-pillar lights ,but they are now painted BLACK,as is the rest of the roof-lining,sunvisors,
In the middle of the roof at the rear is a Verada map reading light ,but with WHITE led in there, also ,one in the middle ...it has RED led in the main light and WHITE led in the map lights
And at the front of the interior of the car is a..GULP...Commodore sunglass holder with ,yep ,more led lights lol...
Oh yeah...nice big led panel in the glovebox and lets not forget in the centre console ,there is a pair of led lights to light up the bin...
...under the radio i have installed three acc plugs ,with RED led lights...
um....led in the boot....
It all ties in nicely with RED of the Ralliart steering wheel and Ralliart interior and the RED leather door cards.
Now you may think, gee likes his RED,but no,not really,i would have preferred Blue ,
but that would have not matched the very original bit of RED in the interior of the car ,and that is the RED color and lights of the Sports dash.
Centre trip/clock has RED led in them ,as does the heater controls, and ,of course the radio has RED lighting as well....

Hey while we are all on the subject of interior lights, I noticed my TJ exec project car has footwell lights in the front and map lights in the rear yet my TL ES does not. Why is that? Were those extra interior lights an option? Also the only reason why I didn't take the footwell lights is because I have 2 red LED neons on my footwells :)
