Can anyone tell me the Engine Oil Capacity of a 96 Magna TE Executive and is it going to cause problems if the Oil is 1cm higher than the High Mark on the dipstick?

I'd imagine it would be 4-4.5 litres. If there is a ding in the sump, "overfilling" on the dipstick a little would be okay.

I usually have about 1L left out of 5L when I do a filter and oil change.
Overfilling by 1 cm is ok, in fact if your car burns oil and you don't check too often it's probably a good idea. lol

So hit the sump with something solid, Ding = Good, no ding = bad?

No like if the sump has damage, like its got a indentation in it, then overfill it a bit because you'll lose come capacity with that dint in it.

Ohhh, Gotcha. I have never done an oil change. Turns out that i didnt put enough oil in. All is well and the job went perfect. :)

You should never overfill the sump because overfilling can allow the crankshaft and connecting rods to come in contact with the oil in the sump and this then causes the oil to be churned up and aerated etc just like a frothy milkshake! But I'd guess that 1cm would be OK.

I wasnt suggesting overfill it to crazy extents, just enough to make up the amount the sump should usually hold (So like that extra cm or so).
