Hi Guys,

I know this has probably been done to death - apologies. I can't figure out how much plastic I can get away with cutting out to accommodate some deeper 4" speakers or even how to go about it. Picked up some Sony XSGTF1027 (http://www.sony.com.au/product/xs-gtf1027) the other day - haven't checked but I'm guessing they're gonna be quite a bit too deep for the space. Has anyone used these before in a magna?

Cheers,

Lex

Get some hacksaw blades and slowly bend the end at 80-90 degrees and wrap the rest in tape to give yourself a handle with a short sawblade on the end. Stanley knife and soldering iron also worked ok for me with varying levels of success, hacksaws were easiest. That plate thats under the shallow speakers is all I cut out, you will probably also have to cut some tabs off the speaker as I think it only fits a 2 bolt speaker.
In the end, 4" speakers did not much at all and I took the map holders off and put 6's in the doors.

go to the wrecker and get hold of some verada speaker pods for the doors.

+1 for rada pods.

4" speakers that shallow are just a waste of time imo, just put some 6" splits in and mount the tweeter up in the dash :)

I'm still a bit worried about busting something - hopefully I won't destroy the a/c vents haha. Also got some 6x9s for the back - having trouble getting the screws in for those. Just gonna hammer a nail in to open up the holes a bit  Made a total mess when I cut up the carpet on the parcel shelf too. Pretty sure the speaker grilles will cover up the messy edges though :kb:

Rear speakers is fairly easy. A drill will open the holes for the screws. Take rear seats out. Run speaker wire under carpet down passenger side of car. The plastic edges screw off. There are 3 more screws in passenger foot well, undo them, pull on the carpet for a bit, and you can get the wires into the console.

Oh yeah, rear parcel shelf, leave it in and trace the holes in from underneath it sitting inside the boot.
