View Full Version : Interesting option in ASX
Saw an ASX yesterday with LED DRLs fitted below the fog lights. Looked genuine rather than aftermarket. Be interesting if these can be fitted to other makes.

Whats that black thing around them? Needs colour coding

Nice fairy lights lol
The black thing is the plastic trim for the lights to match the black plastic around the fog lights and even has the c shaped cut to match the fog light protrusion.

IMO it looks a little cheap - like a cheap aftermarket ebay special.
Maybe it looks better in real life but from the photos
I've seen better OEM DRL's.
I guess the car designers have another component to design and play with now - some will look good, others will fail.

It's definitely not factory. We sussed out all the ASX dealer accessories when we bought ours, and DRL's weren't on the list. I agree they look tacky and cheap.
Doesn't do it for me either :(
Nice fairy lights lol

To be honest I think these LED lights have been overdone by car manufacturers. It's starting to look really bad.
The only cars that pull them off are the Audis, and at that not all (A6 and A3 look horrible with LED lights)
The worst car to sport these light is the VE series 2 clubsport. Looks dead set horrid! The new kias look alright with em actually.
And yeah, that asx looks shit.

Is there anyway to overpower these lights? I think it was a clubby drove past me the other night and its DRLs almost blinded me, was intense.

I thought the point was they only run during the day? Hence why they are too bright for night time.

You are correct. They must have modified it.

Most likely a new addition. Do a search on google images for ASX DRL and there are plenty of them

had a pair fitted, its a front bar off job. They have their own computer which connects to the ecu (ecu has a dedicated socket), so essentially they are only on when the headlights are off (or even parkers), there is no way to switch them off or to keep them on together with headlight. Scored them for $100 on ebay, they look really good with my colour, titanium grey.

Did you get the old style or the new style?
And yes, by law, they cannot be independently/manually switched on. Only on when the parkers are off. I used relays for mine hooked up to the parker fuse. Some cars have them stay on but dimmer to act as parkers and don't have separate parkers.

My Mrs has a 2014 ASX. Those are genuine DRL's and we looked at getting them but I think they look rubbish. The new MY15 ASX has a different type of DRL fitted that is intergrated around the foglamp (replaced the chrome bezel) which looks much better. I tried to buy them but Mitsi won't sell a set to me. That's my 2c
Is the MY15 the hooked/angled one that goes on the outside of the foglight bezel?

They are the old style (exactly the ones as in the first post photo), i have seen the new ones that Mitsubishi released for XB series, they were a bit slimmer. But now (as above) they are offering DRL integrated into fog light. I also found an interesting option available from rock auto, foglight combined with DRLs, all inside the lens housing. Ill post some photos when i get home.

Yes that is correct. We have the MY14 Aspire so top of the range. Pretty much the same as MY15 but yeah we dont have the DRL's fitted which sux. I was hoping Mitsi would offer them as an accessory but they arent. I purchased a non genuine set from Hong Kong that has a similar shape but has the chrome around the LED lights. Looks OK but is not the same as OEM
I am on the lookout for a MY15 wreck that's had a rear collosion so the front is still good so I can get the OEM DRL's

That is almost like the Suzuki Vitara. Although, for them, if you don't have fog lights (base model), you can fit a round DRL in the same cavity as the fog light and the factory will charge $300 for the pleasure of doing it.
