I'm gonna be changing the oil in my TH magna soon cause its due and i'm a cheap skate. Just wondering if anyone knows a good oil for a car thats done about 130,000 km. I know the last time it was changed (at k-mart im cheap i know) they used a semi synthetic blend, should i just stick with that??
plenty of threads on this already mate
quick answer alot of people like penrite hpw15 ( 15-40 from memory) about 35 for a 5 ltr bottle in my area

I'd go with penrite Hpr 10 I used it on my old 3.5 and that had over 200,000km on it with no troubles at all

The oil visciosity usually depends on the level of engine wear. With the new generation oils that change visciousity as they heat up - the 10w or 15w (first part of the numbers) is basically how thick the oil is when it is cold, with the other half of the numbers being its operating visciousity (40). If you're engine is well worn - i.e. 200,000km+ then you're going to need a thicker oil that will lubricate the engine better especially during the cold starts as this is when most wear occurs in the engine. Being 130,000km I think you should be fine with the thiner oil at 10-40W so therefore get the Penrite HPR10. Got it my car (same km's as yours) and I love how it performs. Penrite is a real favourite around here and for good reason.

Oil viscosity does not depend on engine wear, there are so many threads on this topic is almost as bad as asking what exhaust to use lol
IN all the cars I service here I use HPR10, does not matter if they have done 60k or 300k, they all get it, they all use it and they all have no issues using it
ahh hpr 10 not 15 well their ya go OP, mal works on enough of these to know

+1 on the HPR10. Great oil and not overly expensive. Can get it on sale quite often too.
