I have a double din DVD player in my car that I bought off ebay, was only $300, came with GPS. Have had it in my car for over a year and have had no dramas with it at all, the only thing is the maps are slowly getting out of date and I have no idea how to update them, and the GPS stopped loading for a couple days once but then started working again lol. Mine does not hav the reverse camera so I cann't comment on that though.

Munkeymanz has one in his TW AWD, I had a look at it, it looks awesome and I'm considering getting one once my bank account recovers after my upcoming round of mods.
The only thing I'm worried about is the source quality. I'm no sound expert, but I'm pretty sure the "cheap" units wouldn't be able to output as high quality as the other "better" brands; and if the source is crap, it automatically makes the rest of your system crap.

Yes the Sound Quality will severely suffer. No decent premap or EQ not to mention T/A
I had one, absolute rubbish. Stay away!
Sound quality was appalling, the screen flip out lever fell off and the screen failed to closed properly. I pulled it out and put in a mid range Pioneer single din.
im with life, stay well clear...u can buy the clarion units on special for about 450-500 and made with alot better quality components than the crap of ebay
Clarion units are shit too. My mate has one and I has a serious engine noise issue with any amp. Fine with any other head unit.

Sounds like a fair swap!! Seriously we put one in a Hyundai and to be perfectly honest the sound leave A LOT to be desired. You pay for what you get as a head unit I would keep the money and buy a $150 single DIN sony from Supacheap next time.

I had a double din no-name brand in my WRX, loved it to bits actually. Wasn't too fussed over the SQ as I only ever used it with the stock speakers, the functions of the unit were really good though with; bluetooth, hd tuner, gps, ipod control etc. Was about $350ish.

Ive got a Xtron off ebay , the only issues ive had is the lights in the buttons are blowing , but not to worried
the good bits are the Bluetooth , I can play the music off my phone without plugging anything in , and every time you get in the car and start it , its already connected
Im just about to connect a amp and sub + fit up the reverse camera
you could still get a dud one , but Ive been lucky so far
eBay units are perfectly fine if your ears are broken and you don't mind bits breaking.

Let's not forget the hassles of warranty claims if purchased overseas. I bought a HID kit once and sent back the ballast as it died and never hear back nor got a replacement. I'll never get anything above $50 from eBay again. Especially electrical stuff

Well, I ended up passing on the eBay unit, I just think it will be just that bit too flimsy.
I got the Pioneer AVH8400BH, imported from the states. This one here, specifically (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007O0K9EG/sr=8-3/qid=1343088615/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1343088615&seller=&sr=8-3). It retails for just under $1000 at JB HiFi, got it for $550 shipped here. Have not had any problems and couldn't be happier with it!
